I regularly use Time Machine to back up my hard drive to an external drive. However, when I try to do so now, TM reports that it is unable to do so, though it confirms that I am still able to copy files to the external drive or open files already on it. I therefore launched Utilities/Disk Utility/First Aid to make any necessary repairs to the external drive, but it reports that it is unable to complete its work. I attach a copy of the report. Where do I go from here ?

If this is your only backup disk, my suggestion is to back up its data to a different drive, probably starting with the most current TM snapshot. Then try reformatting your disk. Anyway, the like hood is high that the disk is damaged and you should replace it completely.

I have just tried Disk Drill on the external drive, and it reports that it is unable to repair the catalogue-file. I accept that I must think in terms of a replacement -- thank you for your advice.
