First Apple Website

Just curious - does anyone have screen shots (or is it still posted out there somewhere?) of apples first website? Just thought it would be interesting to see. Would be neat to see what it looked like compared to today -

Wow, some of those old pages were ugly

I mean seriously, look at the design. Even in 1996 that couldn't have been easy on the eyes....not to mention how un-"apple" some of the content is... a table detailing the cost of printing on various printers?

though it looks like that after Steve took the helm again the design improved significantly, though the apple website can still be a strange beast sometimes. Certain parts of it(namely parts of the support and developer pages) still sport the pin stripes and 10.2 ish buttons.
 
You do have to take into account that in 1996 there was no Dreamweaver, the main browser was Netscape 3 and even Flash was only just being released.

Okay, seriously, that was a fun walk down memory lane. Funny thing is, I don't feel like I am that old (26) and yet I remember a lot of those ads and websites. Its odd how young the internet really is when you think about it.

And I see that thread about the iPod sort of speaks for itself, but that is too hilarious. First off, I didn't even know macrumors had been around that "long." I also didn't know apple has always been that secretive to require a "macrumors" site. I thought this was more of recent times thing. Are some of those members who said the iPod wouldn't make it still around? Or have they changed their screen name due to "foot in mouth"?!?!

Thanks a ton for posting all that - I really enjoyed it.

That's actually kind of cool seeing how it's changed chronologically like that. Thx for posting that link.. it really takes me back for a trip. I'm so glad we're all more Web 2.0-conscious and internetioully evolved since those days.

I remember the old Macromedia site too... it always took forever to load (Glory days of 56k) because they had to put Flash (what was it called before they changed it to Flash? I forget) on the page.
 
Haha, that's funny. The first looked too simple for an Apple website. The current one is also simple, but with style. :)

Even still, compare it with the site after Jobs came back(less than a year later), the whole site is a lot cleaner, and much more "appleish" than the 1996 ones.

You could probably find similar threads for every new Apple product. Thread 500 is pretty special though.

BTW, you can view any site like this by going to Google 2001, searching, and click "view old version on the Internet Archive"

EDIT: This post dosent make sense in this thread because it was a new thread that was merged with this one. Mods, you really should make a note on the post when you do that, coz posts just look out of place and its confusing.
