First attempt at burning a DVD

I am new to Mac and tried to burn a DVD last week while I was out of state photographing a wedding. For whatever reason it did not work. So, I ordered Toast as several of my professional photographer friends said that is the only way to go. It will be here next week, but I am looking for any other heads up that I may need.

I basically want to clean off my CF cards so I can keep shooting. Just a way to archive what I have done. With 1 Gig cards, a CD doesn't hold enough data so that is why the DVD. I am using a 14" iBook with 60 Gig and 756. Thanks for your help!

easy -

1. insert blank dvd
2. drag files to the disk image finder creates
3. ctrl-click the disk image and choose "burn disk".
4. rinse and repeat

it is not the only way to go, but for me it sure seems to be the easiest.

did you get toast 7? it can do so, so many cool things. you'll like it!

Hmm...I've burned dozens of DVD backups without a hitch in Panther and Tiger.
Toast might be nice for advanced DVD authoring, but it certainly shouldn't be necessary for backing up images etc...

Maybe this will help: In the finder, right click and create a burn folder.
Insert the CF card into a card reader and drag the folder with your images in it to the desktop. At this point you can delete the images from the CF card or format the card in-camera.

Eject the CF card. Drag the folder you just copied into the burn folder you created on the desktop. Open the burn folder and highlight the folder with the images in it. Insert DVD disk. Click burn.

Do this if it doesn't work with Tiger's built in burn...then try erasing PRAM and NVRAM (Apple + Option + P + R after first startup) and (Apple + Option + O + F to erase nvram) if all these steps don't work, your superdrive is busted

Or if your getting the error message Ox800D something or other) you can go into Application/Utilities/Console, and click under the drive and see what the specific error message means.
