First broken iPhone here?

Yes, after babying it, from day one, i took off the rubber case due to bulkiness and the invisishield due to the ripples. Well, i dropped it on concrete last night and i wasnt too worried because it wasnt that hard of a fall. Nothing my other phones couldn't handle

Long story short, the bottom half of the multitouch does not work. i cant answer or unlock the phone. the only way i know its the bottom half is because when i shut her down, the shutdown slider on top works.

Off to Apple store today, could i be the first case?

ps, the brushed aluminum dents pretty easliy

i noticed the backing of it dents pretty easy. I'd try to restore the phone just for fun to see if it does anything.

oddly enough, some other guy was the the ipod bar with the same problem, and his even had a rubber case. i dont know if he dropped his, but same problem

Outcome: Apple took care of us both with new iphones, very quick and painless

not to be negative, but you got apple to fix something you broke? just try to be careful next time.

i'm amazed at how apple is bending backwards to satisfy every iphone owner's complaints, even if it's the owner's fault. this would never happen with a mac.

I would agree with you, this type of damage is not really covered by warranty. and for a pricey gadget people holding in hand, a case is absolutely necessary. I dropped my PDA once, and my cellpone at least 5 times(well, my cell is cheap, so I didn't bother with case ).

iPhones are brand new...good service means potentially more customers...good service is good in general

What's better, people paying out of pocket for expensive iPhones that broke with one trivial drop, or Apple replacing these phones initially? The latter sounds a LOT better in the news than a whole bunch of idiots blabbing about broken glass.

But if Apple was bending backwards to satisfy every owner's complaints, the iPhone would have 3g already, and 3rd party app support the day it came out.

says who? is there some note that states it should not break from a fall of X to a surface of Y somewhere on the apple site?

geez. he dropped it. it broke. and apple nicely replaced it.

Or they are bending because in the age of blogs and the worthless and lazy journalism "Standards" of today, the last thing apple wants to do is a get black eye from some blogger whining how he dropped his iphone and it broke and why its all apple's fault and have it picked up by USA Today et al.

They are controlling the message in these early days of the customer service theme that many are watching (potential customers, lazy media.)

It's good that they are doing it but it won't last.

hmmm, the reason i use is because i expect more from this phone than to become a brick after a slight fall. It didnt fall and roll, nor did it fall 10 ft. It was a casual accident that has happened on my other phones in the past with no problems resulting.

I dont know why people felt like i was trying to.... never mind..... point is i wanted to let people know that it is pretty fragile and the damage can be pretty severe to the iphone (not being able to use it). I also wanted to let people know how Apple took care of me, but, whatever, anything will be criticized by somebody

I think after all the money they're making with a low cost (to make) phone plus whatever profits they also get from at&t, at the moment they can afford to replace a couple iPhones here and there.

Tough question. To be honest, I've never had a phone break from a drop. It's the only admirable thing about my Treo (which was dropped several times).

I think Apple is doing the right thing at this time if they replace some obviously "dropped" phones. Reliability is a great concern for the handheld market. People use their phones differently than PDA's. They're used while walking and distraction is a major issue. They get dropped. I think the standard for a phone needs to be higher. I don't think anyone in the industry expects a laptop to take a fall, but a phone has to be different.

Mine had that problem on release day. I opened it up, activated it, and quickly realized the bottom third of the screen was unresponsive to touch. Now, I didn't drop, it was like that out of the box, but I went in the next day and they just gave me a new one.
