I picked up my reservation this morning at the local Apple store, and upon set-up, everything was fine, until I attempted to rotate the device... the screen did not rotate. I checked the rotate lock switch, and it was unlocked.

The Apple Genius looked it over, checked the switch and it still did not work... the Accelerometer must not have been functioning. So we locked the screen and tried to un-lock again, but the screen would not wake. The tech even tried a reset, but the device wouldn't come back on.... it had registered a 98% charge initially.

So, thankfully we hadn't left the store yet, and they swapped our my new iPad with a new one, and everything is now perfect.

I wasn't sure if anyone out there had also encountered the same or similar issues with their iPad???

My wife's came this morning and it has a bad LCD. Almost like it has scratches under the glass on the screen. It works fine but will need to be exchanged.
Otherwise it is very cool!

I worried about this happening to me as well. Thankfully mine is in perfect working order. Glad they replaced yours!

I freaked out when I thought the the comet trails on the home screen was a scratch. Mine is perfect.. The iPad is way better than I ever imagined. It will be revolutionary for sure. I feel sorry for my ThinKPad as it will see much less use!

I almost freaked too, I thought the box was scraped against the side of the building, lol

Mine appears to be DOA...

It will turn on, and asks me to connect to iTunes. It rotates, and responds to the power off button and rotate lock switch.

But when I connect it to by MBP, iTunes doesn't recognize it. When I plug it in to the power outlet, it doesn't indicate a charge. Using a different sync cable doesn't work either.

I called AppleCare, and they want me to take it in to an Apple Store. I have a 5:30pm Genius Bar reservation -- earliest was 4pm, but we're going to a baseball game this afternoon, and 4 was too early.

I'm guessing the dock connector or something with the USB is defective. Frustrating. I figured I'd be OK since my iPhone was DOA due to a bad accelerometer...

iTunes 9.1 required!

You MUST have iTunes 9.1 for the iPad to be recognized.

I realize that. I have iTunes 9.1 -- updated a couple days ago. I've even moved over a couple of ebooks into iTunes.

If it was just my computer, the iPad would charge when plugged into the wall. But it doesn't -- that's what indicated to me that it was a DOA iPad.

Sorry - wasn't entirely directed at you, but at all the other people who haven't upgraded to 9.1 and click on this thread at some point...

:)

That's fair... I should have mentioned that I had iTunes 9.1...

Me too. What idiot decided to use that picture as default. I only realized it after taking a screen shot and suddenly the "scratches" moved.

Genius confirmed it was a DOA iPad... Replaced with one that works...

lol it is the background image that makes it look like that

I didn't really have a DOA...but I had a few LCD fractures under the glass and Apple happily exchanged it out.

Sounds a lot like my first iPod touch. As far as the comet trails on the box and hone screen some people mentioned, i got worried, too! I want to keep my box mint, for no real reason but sheer love.
