A month ago I brought a refurb iMac. I was excited to be getting a mac because of all the great things I hear and how people swear by it. Hoping to get a quality machine for a great value I ordered a refurbished one from the Apple Online store with Applecare.
The iMac came DOA. Initiated an RMA with Apple and they released a second one to me as soon as I returned this one. Second one was heldup for a couple of days before I called them to find out what was going on. For some reason they didn't release it, but the rep was able to release it and send it overnight which was nice of them. Received the second one and all seemed to be working well. Tested out the iChat video conferencing and realized that noone could hear me. Tried to pair up my phone and realized the mac couldn't find my phone.
I decided to bring it into the Apple store and they saw that someone hadn't properly plugged in the internal mic cable and bluetooth card was broken.
All in all, not a great experience. Just thought I would share. I guess i just put too much weight on the refurbd products based on all the great things that I kept reading about it. Hopefully from hear on out it will be ok. Glad I got applecare but being that its a 24"; its a pain to carry back and forth for every issue.
on a positive note, I was able to get the price protection on it; being that the price of the mac I purchased went down less than a month after I brought it!
