Ok, so I got my first Mac in the mail yesterday from Amazon. It's the base model late 2012 Mac mini. I got it all set up last night and I was using it for a couple hours with no issues. I turned it off for the night and when I turned it on this morning, I got the three beeps when I pressed the power button. I looked it up and it said it had to do with a RAM issue or something like that. I thought it was odd since I had no issues last night and I have yet to even open it to install more RAM, etc. So I just unplugged the power cable and plugged it back in and I turned it on and this time it booted perfectly.

Fast forward about 30-45-sh minutes and the mini randomly rebooted out of no where while I was watching a YouTube video. I thought that was odd but didn't really think about it until it rebooted 2 or 3 more times. Each time, it would reboot less than a couple minutes after it booted back up. Also, each time I got the grey screen saying to press any key to reboot because there was a problem or whatever. It seems to be fine now and it hasn't rebooted in about 5 hours. I was going to call Apple to see what they had to say but they're closed for July 4th.

Anyone think they might know what's up or have any suggestions? Otherwise, I love it so far, it's fast and OS X is great. :)

Open it up and remove then re-install the RAM….

Other than sending it back, that's all I have………..

It was working fine until about 45 minutes ago. It went to sleep and when I tried to wake it up, I got the beeps again. So I tried removing the ram and putting it back in and it wouldn't boot. Kept trying and figured out that it will only boot now if I only install one ram stick into the top slot. If I install both or just in the bottom slot, it won't boot.

Probably just going to bring it in to the store tomorrow.

Try swapping sticks in the first slot only, if it won't boot with one in particular it's a bad RAM stick……….

I think that your only option is returning it...

Agreed, take it to the Apple store

It's weird because it was working all day (except for the first boot yesterday morning which it ended up booting) and it even went to sleep several times and woke back up with no issue. This time I'm not sure what happened. The RAM is definitely in right and I don't want to break anything.

I'll be bringing it in, but it's just weird how it was working the whole time.

That sometimes happens with RAM... I got two sticks for my Mini from OWC, and the problem with rebooting randomly appeared after two days of normal use... And even then it would happen once a day, then nothing for two days, then again... It turned out that one of the sticks was faulty...

For anyone who's wondering what ended up happening:

Turns out when the Genius looked at the RAM sticks in the back of the store, they didn't recognize them and said none of the other Geniuses did either. He said they were Apple sticks but didn't have the logo on them. Additionally, he said the bottom RAM slot was no good. So, I'll be returning it to Amazon with a letter by the Genius saying it is defective. Very weird.
