First Mac just ordered! Excitement at an all time high!!

Hello all, I am a new switcher that just pulled the trigger on my first mac!

here's what my order looked like:

20" Imac
upgraded video card
2 gig ram
250 gig hard drive
bluetooth keyboard and mouse

2gig black ipod nano

all tolled with student discount it came to $2351.74, atleast ill be getting the $180 rebate for the nano.

it's expected to be delivered the 19th (nano) and the 21st (imac). Needless to say I'm busting with anticipation....somehow i gotta get these almost 2 weeks to pass quick!

To make this topic more worthwhile, can you guys please point me in the direction for some must have programs for Macs? Thanks!!:D
 
can you be a little more specific about the programs?

some programs
Toast-Dvd burning program
VLC-best Video player imo
Adium- Good IM app
MacTheRipper-Dvd Ripper

thats all i can think of right now
 
heh, thanks ill probably be more specific when i actually have it and am able to know what i need. just wanted to know if there was any must have programs or whatever (in reality i just made it to show off my new purchase lol :p )
 
Congrats! I made the Switch in February with a 20" Intel iMac and it's been... well, a bit more realistic than the ads make it look like but surprisingly enjoyable. Best IT choice I've ever made, actually. "If I'd known it was this easy, I'd lost my mind a long time ago."

Wow, sounds like you've got a nice system on the way..Congratulations!

I switched over just about a month ago and couldn't be happier! Take some time to look over Mac OS X Support and particularly try the "Mac 101" link. It will help you get accustomed to how Tiger works.

All I can say is, the more I use OS X, the more I like it...I'm officially hooked!

I might be alittle late but can you tell us what apps you would like to fine replacements for and we can point you in the right direction.
 
I've seen a few threads on P2P programs but I'm not sure which one is the best (in terms of spyware, speed etc)
 
viccies - that's the glory of the Mac, there is no spyware.

As for programs, the greatest freeware app I know is Handbrake. Converts your DVDs to .mp4 files with either MPEG-4 or H.264 encoding. Allows you to rip DVDs and TV shows on DVD to your iPod or at full resolution for files much smaller than a ripped DVD but with the same clarity as the original disc.

Combine it with Lostify and you have all you need to rip and organise all your movies and TV shows.

Using the proper settings you can fit about 5 or 6 full length movies in the space one ripped DVD would take up on your hard drive and they work with Front Row.

And it has one of the cooler icons ever made! And that is reason enough to get it...

wow... thats a great deal. when i bought my MBP15 the total was over $2,500 (before rebates). but i also got the 2gb ipod nano, printer, office:mac, and .mac account. and you got a 20" screen! great deal!
