first Mac owner with starter question

Hi everyone, i've just recieved my first MAC ever. (MBP C2D 15" 2.33ghz)

What should i keep in mind when i start using it?
Should i reformat it and install the OS again to take out junks that i dont need?
What should i check to see if the computer is running on par.

Please give this newbie some advise on how to handle my first mac.

Don't bother with a reinstall. Since you've never used OS X, you're not sure what you need, and this isn't Dell or Lenovo or (whatever), so there's very little junk-demos installed.

Some people reinstall the OS to get rid of drivers, languages etc. They don't really make the machine run better, but free up HD space. I just got rid of the trials (office, quicken, etc.)

I am staring at the boxset right next to me... can't wait untill i am off work and start playing with this sexy.

should i do a battery calibaration right when I start using it?
I got the mbp from bestbuy, anyone else have experience getting a mac from bestbuy?
