Here are my first pictures from my new Canon 350D.

I know I've got to learn to improve focus, colour, white balance etc but what I am most impressed with is the speed of this thing. There's no delay between pressing the button and taking the picture, which means I can frame the subject just how I want it, even if its moving fast like these guys were.

If I tried this with myold camera, I'd probably just have photos of some nice fields!

Wow, they look pretty good. That's good to hear about the lack of delay between pressing the button and the shutter snap. That's my biggest pet peeve about digital cameras.
So were you sky diving along with these guys? Looks like fun!

Nice pics! Aren't DSLRs nice? :)

Btw, I don't think that pbase.com allows direct links, which is why your picture didn't show up..... :( But don't hold me to that, since I don't use pbase, just photobucket.... I hope that you can get it figured out. :)

That's the true beauty of the DLSR! :D :D :D

Congrats on the new camera. DSLR are fun to use, and experimenting with them is free! Make sure you shoot as often as you can :)

No I was standing on a hill watching them.

I tried to make my photos look I was flying though. I wish I was, but not sure I'd have taken my brand new DSLR up with me

I just got one of these too and took a bunch of pics during my trip to SF!

I also just ordered the 10-22mm lens they made for the digital SLR's. Looking forward to getting that! It's really amazing how far DLSR's have come. I worked at a camera store three years ago, and that's when the first ones like the Nikon D100 were first coming out. The performance doesn't even compare to these new ones...and the price is much nicer!

Some great shots. Specifically the seagull in front of the bridge, and my personal favorite the back scratching squirell haha.

Sorry for the delay, but this shot shows how I got the effect of being in the air for the photos above. I was standing on the big hill that the guys were jumping off. When there was no foreground in the picture, it looked like I was flying.

:D I would have believed it was real!

Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on your toy!! :)

As far as improving color and white balance, I think your photo itself actually looks pretty good, although I don't have time to check the histogram.

You should try boosting levels in Photoshop or whatever -- I think that these are great photos, but the contrast is a little bit low. Also get used to the idea of the unsharpen mask tool in Photoshop. :D I'm super happy with my 300D, but you'll be amazed at what two or three minutes of PS can do for you.

Also, if you haven't yet, make sure you calibrate your screen; it makes a big difference in good post-processing.

i am a sucker for squirrel pics... that one where the guy is reaching back to scratch his ass or whatever is a gem!

mind if i ask how much the 10-22 set you back...? i've found that wide angle lenses for digitals are prohibitively expensive for an amateur like me..

It was pretty pricey...$700ish. That's the only bad thing about the Rebel, the multiplier ratio of 1.6. To get a decent wide angle, you've got to buy a really wide lens.

Check out Sigma lenses.

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/

I bought an 18 - 50 {F 2.8} Sigma lense for my 350D {The kit lense with the 350D is not the best}

You can also buy the 18 - 200 {Sigma again} which I might get one of later as well.Dont know if its of any help but the 18 - 50 was around 800 NZ,and the 18 - 200 is around 670 I think. Our dollar being about 68c of the US dollar.

Just got it! Haven't really had a chance to go out and shoot anything "good." :)

Wanted to see how much I could get into the picture standing against the front door of my condo (if you look really closely you can see my Powerbook!):

That's with a wideangle lens, right? How much more do get into the photo using a wideangle lense when compared to your other lense? Just curious.

Yes, that's with the 10-22mm lens. I should take the same picture with another lens to show how much more you get in. If I get a chance, I'll upload one here.
