Hi all, please be easy on me but rather than just scheduling an appt with Apple I am looking for some insight here first.

The issue in question: video was the only way I could get the lines to be visible.

I purchased a secondhand Pro and received it just yesterday. It's in immaculate phsyical condition and runs perfectly fine. However, earlier I was shopping and noticed these strange lines on the right side of the screen. There are two almost parallel lines that are much more noticeable and a group of many smaller vertical ones below that (I couldn't get those in the video, believe me I tried.) However, they are only visible at an angle and disappear on any remotely dark background.

It could be a whole lot of nothing but my only concern is if this is the start of something worse in the future. I am not rushing out to replace the screen as it's tolerable since the lines aren't visible head on. I tried searching images, forums etc. but couldn't find anything that matches what I am dealing with.

Thanks for any advice!

Could be something, could be nothing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've not seen anything like that on my M1 Max 16" that I've had for a few years now. Then again, maybe it's something I just haven't noticed - it's hard to see even in the video.

Buying used is always gonna be a gamble.

Coming from somebody who repairs these units every day as part work, assuming what you're seeing is exactly what that video shows, immediate gut reaction is that this machine has had some amount of liquid exposure in the past. Whenever liquid gets into the display itself, it can very often cause these types of parallel bands to form, and you only really see them either threat certain angles or with light backgrounds. Keep in mind that I can't see this machine in person so I am taking your word on it's based on the video you provided. If you can get something better to show it off then I might be able to get you a clear answer, but as of now that's the more likely situation especially since you don't know the history of the machine prior either.

As far as what you can do about it, it's basically a situation of either live with it or pay an absurd amount of money to replace the display. If this machine by some miracle still has AppleCare plus from the original owner, then the display replacement would either be zero dollars or $99 depending on what the genius for people will say when they see it, but if it's out of warranty you're looking down the barrel of a roughly thousand US dollar display replacement Via Apple, and still a pretty expensive repair even by third-party repair shop standards but with the added gamble that you have no idea what the repair shops will do since they have nothing to do with Apple in terms of part quality and repair quality standards and such.
