Hi all,

So this is the first time I am posting on the iPad section of this forum. So hope all you iPad experts can help me decide.

I have never had an iPad before and at the moment I only use my xr as my main computing device. So this iPad would end up being like a laptop to me.

I have been looking at getting an iPad for some time now. However didn’t have a chance to do this. I decided I want an iPad now as I am in the position of hopefully soon changing jobs and I feel it would be good to have an iPad where if needed I can I can use for my new work when it comes to typing up documents/reports etc.

The iPad would be used for like I said doing work documents, streaming content like YouTube or things like Amazon Prime videos, internet banking, playing games, and all my surfing I do on safari, as well as talking to friends and family via FaceTime

I would also like the ability to have a decent camera on it too. I have an xr so if it’s got a better camera than the xr then that would also be a bonus. I would also like the ability to connect other devices to the iPad if I needed to do that. Plus a good battery life.

I would also like to have an iPad with Face ID but if it’s Touch ID I don’t mind that either. I wouldn’t want to spend more than £1000 on the iPad. As long as it’s an iPad that will last me many years and won’t slow down over time. As this iPad will be a long term investment.

I have seen the iPad mini and I feel it would be of a too small of a device for me. So therefore I am looking at the iPad, iPad Air or the iPad Pro. Part of me is tempted to get the iPad Pro but then I heard about bending issues with the iPad Pro I think last years model and I don’t know if they have sorted that out for this year’s model.

If I look at the iPad and iPad Air. Apart from the light iPad Air any pros or cons between them two models?

like to add I wouldnt mind either having the ability to use an Apple Pencil should I need that option.

Thoughts and views are welcome.

Thanks

Do not worry about the bending issues. There are many people who don't have a bent iPad Pro after normal use.

For what it's worth, I've seen far fewer complaints of bending on the 2018 Pros versus white spot on Pro 10.5/Air 3.

Camera's not going to be as good as your iPhone but the Pro has the best camera of the bunch and has LED flash unlike the other two. Apple Pencil 2 is also better than Apple Pencil 1 on iPad 10.2 and Air.

Apart from feature differences, it seems to me like any of these iPads will accomplish what you want.

I’m liking the Pro line best but all iPads that Apple sells now are very good.

The Pro might be available refurbished from Apple, have a look for those ad well. Then try it out in the two weeks return period and send it back if you don’t like it.

Thanks for everyone replies. I am planning on getting the iPad Pro. However I am going to wait till I start work again. As right now not working due to the lock down. However I am looking forward to getting to finally getting the iPad.

As others have said you could probably get by on any of them. However if you have the budget and intend to keep it a long time you might as well get the pro.

Ipad pro! I love mine when I got it and its sooo nice. Very premium product. The speakers, screen, the pencil 2 side charging. Also the available keyboards make it super flexible. My pro was my first Ipad in 6 years and it was a worthwhile upgrade.

I can’t wait to get mines. What do you tend to use your iPad for mainly?

Best bang for the buck is 10.2" iPad, but camera not so good, lower quality 8 MP and no flash. No Face ID. 3 GB RAM, which is fine. (I wouldn't recommend any 2 GB iPad model.)

2nd best bang for the buck is iPad Pro 10.5". No Face ID, and some people get the white spot. Camera is decent with 12 MP sensor, optical image stabilization, and flash. 4 GB RAM, which is good.

Best is 11" iPad Pro 2020, but it's probably overkill. Camera is decent with 12 MP and 10 MP (ultra wide) and flash, but no optical image stabilization. Has Face ID. 6 GB RAM, which is better, but unnecessary (for now) for your needs.

2nd best is 11" iPad Pro 2018 refurb. Single camera with flash but no optical image stabilization. Has Face ID. 4 GB RAM, which is good.

During lock down is a good time to learn the iPad.... so there is that.

Hi all,

  • I have never had an iPad before and at the moment I only use my xr as my main computing device. So this iPad would end up being like a laptop to me. So, a keyboard case would be a requirement
  • The iPad would be used for like I said doing work documents, streaming content like YouTube or things like Amazon Prime videos, internet banking, playing games, and all my surfing I do on safari, as well as talking to friends and family via FaceTime. Based on these requirements, any of the iPads would suffice!
  • I would also like the ability to have a decent camera on it too. I have an xr so if it’s got a better camera than the xr then that would also be a bonus. iPad Pro 2018 and 2020 have the better rear cameras
  • I would also like the ability to connect other devices to the iPad if I needed to do that. All iPads can do this...in different ways...depends on your specific needs.
  • Plus a good battery life. All iPads have similar “good” battery life
  • I would also like to have an iPad with Face ID but if it’s Touch ID I don’t mind that either. Then any iPad would do
  • I wouldn’t want to spend more than £1000 on the iPad. Then depending on your storage needs, you’re potentially in the market for any of the current iPad models.
  • As long as it’s an iPad that will last me many years and won’t slow down over time. As this iPad will be a long term investment. Longevity is relative and subjective. Both IPad air 3 and 2018/2020 Pros should last for some time based on your limited use case.
  • I have seen the iPad mini and I feel it would be of a too small of a device for me. Pass on the mini then 😊
  • So therefore I am looking at the iPad, iPad Air or the iPad Pro. I’d go with Air 3 or Pro’s (2018 or 2020) Since longevity is important to you. Better spec’s in terms of chips/graphics
  • Part of me is tempted to get the iPad Pro but then I heard about bending issues with the iPad Pro I think last years model and I don’t know if they have sorted that out for this year’s model. Personally, a non issue (IMHO)
  • If I look at the iPad and iPad Air. Apart from the light iPad Air any pros or cons between them two models? Air 3 has sleeker form factor (ie smaller bezels), faster processor, laminated display....research other differences.
  • like to add I wouldnt mind either having the ability to use an Apple Pencil should I need that option. Most of the newer iPads have this now.

Thoughts and views are welcome. I’d say Air 3 or iPad Pro 2018 or 2020...whatever you can get the best deal on! You didn’t mention size...I’m assuming you’re not interested in the 12.9 inch iPad’s

Thanks

Thanks you for your replies. I am currently aiming to go for the 11 inch model.
