First time I've ever been disappointed that my Mac order has shipped!

Aw, nuts. I ordered a MBP and FCP universal upgrade in mid-December, to take advantage of a £100-off deal Apple were offering.

I need the MBP since selling my G5 tower, and I need the FCP upgrade mostly because of the improvements in Compressor that you only get in the Universal version. So it's all good.

To get by for a while, I installed FCP on an old 867MHz Quicksilver G4 (which, amazingly, works okay!). The only other machine I currently have is an iBook - which I love, but my circumstances have changed and I need a portable with more power and a bigger screen.

So, the first disappointment. After ordering in mid-December, Apple gave me an estimated shipping date of 17th January! You know how it is, once you finally pull the trigger on a new machine, you want it asap.

So on one hand I've struggled on for a month longer than I wanted to. But I consoled myself with the fact that the MBP wouldn't ship until well after the keynote - plenty of time to cancel if something new came out. Was the long shipping time indication that there would be relevant releases at MWSF?

I've learned to cope really well on an iBook and a G4 tower, so it wasn't going to be any particular hardship waiting a bit longer.

Then today, less than a week before the keynote, I get a mail out of the blue to say that the MBP has shipped - over two weeks sooner than expected.



What a strange feeling - I've never been so disappointed to hear that my new Mac is on it's way! Here's hoping MWSF is a bust and nothing new of any significance is released...



(I'm kidding, of course I'm excited... As long as there's no new MBP next week!)

i too had mixed feelings, since its like you're marrying this model and current technology but you'll learn to love it

10-day return policy

I got a MacBookPro and wintin 10 days of having it the C2D came out, they took it back and I got the new one! Yes, there was a restocking fee.

I had my MBP CD, 3 and a half weeks before the C2D came out, but the upgrade wasnt that significant, and i needed it for university. On the other hand, my friend ordered a CD MBP, the 2nd 15", and a week later the C2D came out with a MASSIVE upgrade, i explained to him to send it back, and get the much better new 1, but he knows nothing at all about computers and macs, so didnt care. How much are re stocking fees after the first 14days? And how long after your purchase can you send it back?

Can you send it back even if its build-to-order? Or was it just that you can't cancel a BTO once they're building it?

Oh, and I guess I miss out on any iLife 07 update. But I did save £100, so that's okay. Unless they also reduce MBP prices!

I went through the sane type of thing when deciding to buy Macbook this holiday season. Should or should I not wait for the Keynote? Here's what I think: If something else comes out, you still have one hell of a machine at your fingertips, and I'd be a little apprehensive buying a Rev A of anything for fear of bugs and the like, that's why I waited for C2D bump in the MacBooks.

Plus, I'm sure if you were a good little boy, that Apple just might let you buy another computer from the down the road. Don't feel stuck, be proud!
