This will be the first mac I have ever purchased so I really would like some advise before I purchase. I thought with the new iMacs would make the decision easier but now I am confused.

I am not sure if I should purchase one of the older iMacs on clearance or refurbished or dive into a brand new model.

My needs are the following:
Mainly Development & App Development
Plan on loading windows for my .Net Development
Web Development (not so much on the heavy graphics)
Minor games (my kids)
Last normal everyday use from wife and kids.

I'd buy the new low-end iMac, or a refurb 2.66 if you can find one for around $900-1000. That is plenty for what you're looking to do.

I havent really seen them but I noticed they have a clearance 2.8 for 1399 doesnt seem like a deal considering the low level new iMac is $1499

Go for a new model. You'll be happy that you did. Good luck with your decision to buy your first Mac!

Sounds like video card don't matter to you.

Video card is mainly good for games and for rendering 3d models.
