I am planning on unlocking my iPhone 3G as I am travelling internationally in December. Can someone link me to a guide for the software I should use to achieve this? (Sorry, I am kinda nervous as I don't wanna brick my phone) I am running 3.1.2.

Thanks,
x

Go to iClarified and get a tutorial for 3G for your OS (Mac or PC) for whatever firmware version you want to JB/UL.

It will tell you which tools to use for your needs.

Okay Thanks. I am gonna use blackra1n to jb+ unlock i guess. also how do i secure my jailbreak ( I understand there were some security issues where people sent our rickrolled pics on phone in australia?)

Well its just some simple stuff. You can change your remote password. Most people forget to and the default is 0000. So its easy to go through ones phone.

The issue here was for JB'ed phones with OpenSSH installed (that lets you into the filesystem of the phone - not necessary if all you want is the unlock).

If for any reason you install OpenSSH in the future, change the two standard passwords. That was the security hole. There are threads on this forum if you search for change SSH password.

Has your baseband been updated to 5.11.xx or is it still on 4.26.xx ?

If it's on the lower baseband (4.26.xx) I would use Pwnage Tool and Ultrasn0w since you have a Mac. Very dependable JB/UL.

If you are at 5.11.xx, it's Blackra1n.
