First website in html: how did I do?

This is my first try at making a website from scratch by just typing html code. I didn't use any special software, just TextEdit (and iPhoto).

It's just a simple site I made for my wife. Give it a look, and tell me what you think.

I think it looks great for a first attempt at a hand-coded site!

One minor suggestion - I'd make the links to the current page (i.e., "Home" when you're on the Home page already) not links but just text (i.e., "Home" instead of "Home") so it's obvious which page you're on.

Again, nice hand-coding!
 
Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I realized I had the height wrong anyways. It sould have been 360 to keep the proportions of the image intact.
 
The only thing I would change ... The font for your contact page should be the same as the other pages for consistency. Just a suggestion though.

Regarding everything else: Interesting subject, nice color for the page, nice short text blocks, and lots of pictures. Looks good to me. :)
 
A tip for images:

If you want to post a 1499x900 image as a 600x360 image, don't define it as 600x360 in the html. Instead, manually shrink the image in a program on your computer, and upload that image to use on the site. Otherwise, people have to download the 1499x900 image when they only get to see 600x360 of it. (This means they have to download more than if the original image were smaller to begin with)
 
That's very good for your first hand-coded website.

But as Blackheart said, make the image file sizes smaller. As it is now, it would kill anyone with dial-up.

Since you have iPhoto, you can make the images small very easily by selecting the image, then share > email. Select the size to fit your needs and it will be transported to mail (or your default email app). From there you can drag the smaller image from the email onto your desktop, and then to your images folder (or wherever).
