Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting the iMac, but my home office has shrunk during the pandemic. My partner got a large desk with a 27" screen, and kinda pushed me out. Judging from the advertising of the new iMac, I wonder what's the bare minimum of space it needs. Specifically, I'm considering these Ikea desks that are a bit over 19"/50cm in depth. I guess the monitor will have to be really pushed back, while the keyboard has to be pushed forward as much as possible, to allow the elbows to fit. Has anyone tried it?

Thank you

I’d say around 50cm depth is probably the minimum you’d want ergonomically, you need some space for your wrists. The LILLÅSEN is probably a great choice dimensionally.

Thank you. I have that one, which I sometimes use with my macbook. It's a little tight. I'll have the lid opened at 75º and it will be like an inch from the wall.

You might also want to check out some of the custom desk options on Etsy. Ikea’s options for small desks are pretty restricted when it comes to depth. I actually ended up ordering this one after seeing your post, lol (it’s U.K, but you’ll find good local options), needed

My scenario is similar to yours, used to use the MALM IKEA desk, which was huge. I relocated to another room and have been trying to find a good space saving solution. Maybe explore the VESA mount options as well, then you could integrate it into the desk. Even more room!
