This works for me. I had trashed my Ringtones folder with the custom ring tones I had made using the m4r trick. I simply renamed them m4a, put the folder back in my iTunes library, resynced, and bingo - my created ringtones were back on the phone and I did not get an error message.

Expect 7.4.2 in the near future...:D

Wow!

So now I take an "Apple Lossless" encoded file (.m4a), put it in my Ringtones folder, change he extension to .m4r, double click the file, change the extension back to m4a and sync the iPhone.

It works on my iMac.

Yay, I got my ringtones back! I just went to the Ringtones folder under iTunes and changed the files from .m4r to .m4a

I think it was added in the newest (newer? How many have we had today anyway???) update, as it wasn't to be found in the version of Itunes I downloaded last night when I got my IPhone, but appeared in the version that updated this afternoon.

It's in the Itunes music folder (in Music:Itunes:Itunes Music)

This is somewhat odd.... but there is none there for me. And, I while under 7.4, I was able to add Ringtones that are still avail in 7.4.1, I am not longer able to do so now. Hmmmmm....

Just to make sure I understand correctly, the folder unter iTunes Music is called "Ringtones" and not something else? :)

You will only have the "Ringtones" folder if you have iTunes set to manage your music library. Probably why you don't have this directory.

Ah. Thanks for this clarification. I don't allow iTunes to manage my library. :)
