Update

I have found a fix for the issues affecting so many of us. After no working email account for almost a week and having tried everything, I changed the password for my Apple ID in desperation and presto! It worked immediately. What you need to do is go to appleid.apple.com, select 'manage your account', sign in and change your password to a brand new one you've never used before. Log out of iCloud on all of your devices then log back in and hey presto, you have email back- even on iCloud.com! So glad this issue has finally been sorted
:)

-------------------------------

This is pissing me off. Myself, my sister & my girlfriend made our @me.com accounts from the GM (now we're all on the official release) last week and they have been fine. Now mine is not receiving -but is sending- mail while my the others account are fine. All identically setup by me, only I get a password error message on Lion & iOS5. It happens on iCloud.com too, with a 'cannot load mail' error before taking me back to the homepage- all other iCloud services are working perfectly from the same page (with the same login) and from my devices.

I have tried changing my primary Apple ID from my me.com address back to gmail, logged in with @me and @gmail, restarted, emailing myself and have repeatedly tried deleting and re-adding my iCloud account to the Mac & iPhone to no avail. I know lots of people have had this happen for a short time but for me it has been like this since iOS5 was officially released on the 12th. I don't quite see what is causing the issue as iCloud.com mail has not been down for most people complaining about a brief bit of downtime in the mail applications. My @me email address was created from within iOS5 months ago and has worked brilliantly up to now.

It's causing me a significant hassle considering my me.com email address is used for work as well as leisure. Should you happen to find a way to sort this issue, please post it here. There have been a few 'fixes' posted on the forum but with no luck. Anybody have a contact email address for Apple about this?

For your information, the official iCloud service status says the following:

iCloud: Mail & Notes - 10/13/2011 07:00-11:50 PDT - Users Affected: Some
10/13/2011 12:08 PDT
Some users were experiencing intermittent authentication errors when trying to use mail. Normal service has been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Strange wording. I'll update this post and title should there be any changes.

Man, that sucks even more. When you send an email to your @me address (from elsewhere) do you get it bounced back to you? I don't. I would say we should post the settings from somebody who has working email, but as the iCloud website isn't loading our mail at all I don't think any amount of fiddling with the iOS & OSX apps would work.

Has anybody contacted Apple regarding this exact issue?

I am at least glad I'm not the only one, not that I'm pleased it's happening to you guys. It seems iCloud.com mail completely crashing out on the site isn't happening to many people although the OS X & iOS mail app issue is more common. If you could let us know the outcome of the call auero, we'd really appreciate it.

The iCloud support page incorrectly says all services are currently online

Last night I spoke to an Apple Support guy about this problem, he was a really nice bloke but was clearly following a script and didn't know how to solve the problem. First he recommended I clear my browser cache, I did this and it made no difference. I'd already tried iCloud.com on a myriad of computers and browsers so expected this. He wanted me to check I wasn't using any caps in my email address. Then he asked me to delete and re-add my iCloud account to the machine, which I'd already done many times and also told me to do the old 'unstick mail & notes' trick. No luck. I had mentioned many times that as my mail doesn't work on the iCloud site while my contacts, calendar etc do that it couldn't be anything to do with my settings and must be an error or corruption on Apple's end but he still had to talk me through the aforementioned steps. The whole process took a good few hours.

Eventually he realised that there was nothing I could do myself and escalated things, within 48 hours I should hear back from a senior advisor. I'll let you all know of anything said and advice given. If you want to speak to somebody yourself click this link, select 'more products and services > iCloud > iCloud Mail & Notes' and follow the instructions. if you do, please let us know the outcome!

Bump as I've discovered a fix for the issue, read the first post :)

I went through almost the same process, and the fix posted for me worked as well.

Apparently something broke a while back and my .me account got out of sync with my AppleID account... The Apple support guy was as surprised as I was.

Here is what happened for me.

After talking to someone who I don't think knew how to use an iPhone, I was transferred to an iOS Specialist.

He checked everything out and even did a remote desktop to see what was happening. He was very nice and said that I wasn't the only one that had this issue after speaking to coworkers. He said my issue was going to an engineer and that he was going to contact me as soon as he hears something. He gave me his schedule, email and extension incase I needed to reach him. Still waiting though.

What I think happened was basically this...

Back during the .mac days I had an email lets say auero@mac.com, i also created aliases. Eventually I got tired of the service and didn't renew it.

Then I got an iPhone and wanted mobileme back but a new email address so I registered. I let it go again after having too many issues with it.

I'm a registered developer so I signed up as soon as iCloud went beta. I somehow registered what I realized now is one of the aliases from when I had my .mac account and it worked! When I got my iPhone 4S I noticed my mail was off so I flipped it on and it said that I need to pick an email. Very odd? So I tried the one I had during the beta. No go... it was taken. So I chose a different name and now I can't even get into the mail on iCloud.com and my iPhone is telling me the password is incorrect on mail but all my OTHER services work perfectly fine.

I think there was a database issue and somehow the system let me do something I wasn't supposed to. Or when they transferred MobileMe over to iCloud the accounts conflicted somehow. If I try to email the NEW account I created it bounces back but if I email my OLD one during the beta, it goes through!

Confusing situation but story of my life. If it can't be resolved I'll have to move my account to a new AppleID. The rep said that they should be able to credit me back for some of my expensive purchases which I'm most concerned about (GPS App, sling box, etc..)

Worked for a while

Resetting my password helped the problem for about 1 day. But, unfortunately, this evening it started happening again. I wouldn't mind so much except the pop-up gets in the way of me using my primary email through Mail.app at this point.

Resetting the password is not helping for me

After the migration of my me.com account to iCloud last week, i could access my mail from my mac and both my iOS/5 devices (iPad&iPhone)

And then Monday or so, it stopt working. On my Mac, removing the account and re-entering it worked. I have tried everything on my iPad and iPhone.

Removing the account, changing the password, de-activing and reactivating the Mail, ...

I can send mail, but don't see my Inbox ...

Same here...now, mail seems to be moving in both directions, but the annoying pop up asking me for my password over and over keeps on showing up.

I HAVE deleted the account...Have reset the password. The password reset worked for about a day or so.

Fix did not work.
