Fixed:
Unplugged and plugged it back in then held the power button until the led started flashing and then made a long beep. Low and behold the desktop showed up.

For some reason, after doing an update to my 5,1, the computer starts then the screen goes black. I just did a fresh install of Mojave and everything seemed fine up until this point.

Help!

Black screen after update.

Glad you were able to fix the issue!

In the future, please be sure to make note of which kind of Mac you’re using in order for others to be able to help. My guess is you were discussing an iMac, based on your avatar, but to my knowledge, the earliest (with modification) iMac to run Mojave would be the iMac7,1. You might also be referring to the MacBookPro5,1, the MacBook5,1, MacBookAir5,1, MacPro5,1, or the Macmini5,1.

We also have a Prefix label on the thread title you can use to make this distinction. Cheers.

Ok, then I believe the long beep was a signal that the computer was updating its firmware. With cMPs the firmware update is done manually and I think, by accident, you did the correct thing and the update commenced.
