Hey All!

you may know this, but I just stumbled onto it. In Panther, if you go to the 'International' Preference in the Systems Preferences, then go to 'Input Menu', at the bottom of the 'Input Menu' screen is a checkbox. if you check it off, you get an American Flag in the menu bar!

Simple, yes.

Cool, I think so.

(I think the flag depends on what your keyboard is formatted to.)

:)

Flag

I hate that little flag! I didn't know what it was at first, so since I live in Canada, I selected the Canadian flag. We both speak english, right? Guess what? The punctuation is all off cause it's French Canadian! I couldn't use any "quotation" marks and crap. Really pissed me off. So, now I have to make sure it's always either the American flag or no flag, since every time I reboot it randomly shows the Canadian flag or no flag. Annoying.
I just wish I could have my Canadian flag up there without it screwing up my keyboard!

I was looking for another Canadian keyboard, thinking that there was more than one. As I looked at the language selections, I noticed that there was Ainu under Japanese. The Ainu are the aboriginal people of Japan. Cherokee was also a choice and so many other languages that I was surprised. Arabic had been a problem but now, there are many input methods for it.

Yah, I'm another Canadian that has a little American flag in my menu bar. I, too, thought that the Canada (CSA) keyboard was the one to use . . . but wait . . . c'est français. So I switched back to the US keyboard.

So that bring me to my dilemma. I thought that I would just dig up the .icns file for the little American flag and swap it up with the Canadian one, and voila! I would have a little maple leaf on my menu bar. But, alas, I can't seem to find either the US or Canadian icons . . . there are ones for pretty much every other language in the lists, but for some reason the two I want are absent. Anyone have any idea where in the operating system these might exist? I have been looking in System/Library/Keyboard layouts.

PS to any American readers . . . the desire to do this is not indicative of being anti-American, I simply would like to have a little Canadian flag since, well, it is my home.

I hear ya dvdh. Nothing wrong with other peoples flags, but us Canadians really love to put our flag everywhere. Just look at our beer!
And our poor, poor Maple Leafs. :(
Why did they have to lose in OT? Why?

Yeah, that's pretty sad about the Leafs.

I was also tying to figure that flag stuff out when I first got my Mac but gave up. Just out of curiosity, are all the keys on the Canadian keyboard the same as one from France? Or is there an extra one for "eh" in there somewhere? ;)

I actually thought of just trying the change the American flag to a little 'Eh' instead of the Canadian flag, but again without knowing where the icns file is, that doesn't seem likely either.

About the Leafs. Inconsistent at best (although they were at least putting in the effort for the majority of last night). Given that I am from Ottawa, I was little ticked when they eliminated the Senators. Neither team played anywhere near potential, and Toronto simply stayed in due to heroics by Belfour (for the most part).

Anyways, my support is thoroughly behind Calgary. At the moment they seem to be unstoppable. Besides there is something in me that wants to the see the lowest paid team (37 m) win the cup.
