After trying to get myself to like it for 6 months, I gave it to my 6 year old son.

More typos than one can shake a stick at, especially with the space bar.

Also, as someone had the courage to state in a previous thread before being attacked by 40 fanbois, the thing is like typing on concrete.

(thought I would liven up this forum with a little controversy.)

But its true, about the new keyboard, not so great.
 
I've managed to convert my doubting coworkers over to it. My only problem at home is that when my room is 50° F or less my keyboard is as well.

I'm very cheap when it comes to heating...
 
lol, 40 fanbois. I know what its like to disagree with the popular consensus. I also tend to go against the grain on alot of things.


Just different (key)strokes for different folks I guess. I had the last gen keyboard with my mini. Didnt think I would care much for the new keyboard when I got my iMac, but I like it much more than the last version.
 
I just got my first imac (previous generation) and the keyboard that came with it sucked... it was too slick and I kept making typos... I tried the new keyboard and absolutely love it. Love the short strokes and it feels like my typing speed has increased. I been using Logitech keyboards with my PCs (MX 5000 package) and to me the new Mac keyboard is way better... now the mighty mouse, that has problems. I'm still using the MX 1000 mouse with the help of steer mouse.

Yes, this seems like the fall-back-argument-of-the-year for this keyboard, "better than the last one." It's quiet too, right?

Seems lately apple's keyboards are mush, or concrete.

I'm typing on a dream keyboard right now, btw....

Apple Extended Keyboard II, basically new condition.
 
Since the keys are flat, I expected to hate it, but actually I really like the new keyboard. I've only had it a month though, and my dad has had his 6 months. When I was over there the other day, I noticed the white keys really show dirt. It looked disgusting. That and the new mapping of the dashboard and other function keys are my only complaints.
 
My typing speed on the apple bluetooth al keyboard is phenomenal....loving it.
 
I hate the new keyboard too. Too much like typing on a laptop...which I hate. It's like the difference between a music keyboard with and without weighted keys. I can play the piano fine, but flimsy plastic keys are horrible.

I almost feel like I need to stock up on as many of the old keyboards as I can now to last me the next 60 years or whatever. I love the old ones.

No one is going to slam you for having your own opinion. OTOH neither is everyone that disagrees with your opinion a "fanboi".

I happen to love the aluminum keyboard. I love the response of the keys and even the way it looks.

Not everyone likes the same things. It would be a pretty boring world if they did. :p
 
If it feels like concrete than perhaps you aren't typing correctly? You don't have to pound on the keys as hard as with a more traditional keyboard. If you hit the keys, on the new keyboard, as hard as you would with an older keyboard, then yes I can see how it would feel like concrete. Light hands. And get those wrists up off the desk. I find it hard to believe that if one types correctly that they would prefer a traditional keyboard over the al keyboard. I find that I can type much faster and for a longer period of time with the newer keyboard. I'm probably going to get one for my PC at work (I assume it would work...?).

Preferring something that is newer and more popular does not make them a fanboy.
 
I personally like it. Not really sure why we should care that you dislike the keyboard or why anyone should care that I personally like the keyboard. Yet I find myself typing away for some unknown reason ... and now my mind is drifting onto other more, or perhaps less, important things ... why didn't the Leafs make the playoffs AGAIN .... wow it's it's nice out today, I should clean out the garage ... is today Saturday ... what's that smell ... wonder where Steve buys his jeans and black shirts ........

I tried it in the shop, didn't like it either!

I expected to hate it. The last Apple keyboard I actually liked was the Extended II, of which I have several, all used with Griffin iMates with my Macs. When I bought a 24" iMac for use at work, I expected to throw the keyboard away and connect up the old Extended II, but was amazed to find that I like the feel of the new keyboard, and make far fewer errors on it. So much so that I have bought a couple more to replace other keyboards.

It's not matter of anything much more than personal preference. There's no reason to believe that everyone should like it, or that everyone should agree with you. It's good to have choice.
 
My last Apple keyboard was the wireless one. It was huge. Keys had a long travel, and the outside clear plastic around it collected EVERYTHING! Took forever to type anything. When I bought my new Alum iMac read a lot about the bad new keyboard!!! I now have to put myself among the 'few' that like it better than most of the keyboards I have owned, and I have owned many different brands besides Apples.
 
I love it to death. I can't for the life of me understand what you mean by concrete. Or mush. Maybe you have a faulty keyboard?
 
i'm a little ambivalent myself. i friggen' hated the last apple keyboard, so anything's better then that, IMO.
when i first got it i expected to be flying on it with in a short amount of time, but it's been a few months now and i'm still making tons of typos. not quite sure why....
 
I too hated laptop keyboards for there compactness, what with being used to a M$ ergo split keyboard.

Now that I have mastered the "chicklet" in about a month, when I go on the peecee it's like carving stone with a chisel. Ugh.

Makes me want a MBP 17" now.

I absolutely love the look of it, typing on it still feels a bit weird, and I thought I had decent typing skills... but on this thing I'm flubbing a lot. My brain-finger coordination still has a hard time finding shift, command & the like as automatically as I could before, and I'm not sure why. Maybe I had a mini-stroke, or maybe I just need to keep getting used to the thing. I like how quiet typing on it is compared to the wake-the-neighbors klaking my Quicksilver's keyboard made, but I hardly ever typoed on it, either.

Thing I absolutely love? iTunes controls right up top. I can be doing my thing and skip to the next song without breaking my groove. Most excellent.

One other thing that makes me feel old-fashioned: the keyboard is so slim, it almost feels like tapping on the desktop surface, and my wrists have yet to adapt for some reason.

Overall, I dig it.

(I did end up ditching the Mighty Mouse for my old Kensington 3-button, however.)

This is just why some people are drawn to flame; you make a universal statement based on your life experience, totally discounting others life experiences.

Exactly. So funny to see his advanced complaint about being flamed, when we flames himself with the "40 fanboi comments", as if the vast majority of people who say they like the KB really don't, but just drink the kool-aid. Sorry - that's just wrong, and this posting technique is flame bating, pure and simple.

If you don't want to get flamed, here is a tip: don't bate it up!

PS - I love mine too. Best KB I have had. Better ergonomics, better typing, better looks. Better all around for me.

I'm not going to change the way I have been typing for 25 years, to accommodate a keyboard design that is cheap to produce. Also, my wrists usually are not on the desk when I type. Sure I am picky about keyboards. Do you actually think that the new aluminum keyboard is actually better than a (1991) Apple extended Keyboard II? Have you ever had the chance to use that keyboard? Are you over the age of 30? If one does not hit on the spacebar on the new alum. keyboard pretty darn hard, at least for me, words end up stuck together without a space. For me, this happens much more than on any other keyboard I have ever used.
 
I really like the keyboard compared to Apple's old white one (That thing was impossible to type on, no joke) It's the easiest keyboard to type on that I have ever used.
