Right now I have a Dell Dimension 9100 Pentium D 2.8GHz, and I heavily use Photoshop and Flash (mainly Flash) on it. I plan on buying a Mac Pro with a 1900XT as soon as they're ready, and I'm wondering how the speed will compare to the computer I have now in "real world" actions. I saw a few benchmarks, but sometimes those are a little skewed. Does anybody use Flash 8 a lot on their Mac Pro right now? Does it feel slow or unresponsive, like when scrolling through the timeline or displaying large fields of text? I wish the Apple Stores would have it installed so I could try it out myself... I put the new Flash Player 9 on their Mac Pro in the store and it actually seemed to run Flash SWF files a lot slower than I'd like it to, but I'm not sure what else they did to it or what else was running in the background. Plus, it was trying to power a 30" display with that GeForce 7300. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could let me know their experience. Thanks!

Flash 8 on Mac Pro

I don't have any experience with Flash (other than the player) on an Intel Mac, but I thought I'd mention that both Photoshop and Flash are PowerPC applications, which means that they'll run in Rosetta on an Intel Mac. Rosetta is surprisingly fast, but it's still emulation/translation so Rosetta apps are not as fast as native apps. Photoshop on my iMac is noticeably slower than on my G5, but it's about equivalent to my PowerBook G4.
Photoshop CS3 should be out in the spring of 2007, and it will be native for Intel Macs. Flash will be coming out in a Universal version as well, although I don't think Adobe has said when yet.

Is there any reason behind this...? Are there tests to see just how much slower it is? It's kind of weird why Flash Player is slower on Macs. I'm also looking to see how slow the actual Flash program itself, Flash 8 Pro, runs using Rosetta on the Mac Pro.zign said:

I've never felt as if I was being held back by the speed.

The speed is about the same in both Safari and Firefox. Safari might be slightly better.
I am sure adobe will fix this issue for macs in the near future. They did a good job with player 9 and it is looking promising.
