Flash for tv

Whats the score for setting up flash for output to tv? All flat vector graphic stuff.

Im guessing this is a big can of worms with all the different aspect ratios etc, but if someone can point me in the right direction for some basics id be much obliged.

Or am i best off getting stuck into after effects or something along those lines.

The luma range for NTSC video is 16-235, while in computer graphics the RGB range is 0-255. Before you make your graphics, adjust the output levels of your file to 16 and 235.

As with the luma values, all color values should be within 16-235, with black being 16,16,16 and white 235,235,235. However, you should stay away from using saturated colors, which tend to bleed even if they are within the legal range.

NTSC resolution is 720x480, yet this has the same 4:3 aspect ratio as a 640x480 or 720x540 computer image. This is because NTSC uses non-square pixels (with a 9:10 aspect ratio) while computers use square pixels. If you were to make a 720x480 image using square pixels and then output it to video using non-square pixels the image will look squished.

So taking all that into account, what size should i set up at? Can i use non square pixels in flash??? Im in the uk so ill be using PAL, is it the same resolution as NTSC?

Just as a bit of background, the finished animation will be used as a visual in a night club, burnt to dvd and shown on a projector. So i think the title of Flash for TV might have been a little misleading.

if you can run it from a computer you'll be able to use the full range of colour..

Projectors can handle more colours than a standard TV broadcast, as can Pal-DVD.

To be completely honest I'd do a test or two to see how it comes out.

Unfortunately I don't know the exact specs of PAL, but I know it's not the same as NTSC.

Ive had a google etc. but i cant seem to find anything. Just want to know what size (pixels) i should set my document at? Or if i can find a list of screen ratios, widescreen, standard tv, subtitles etc.
