I know that I've asked a similar question here. Now, for other reasons, I need my GT210 to display the boot screen. Is there anyway I can flash it to do so? If not, what is a good $40 GFX card that can display the boot screen/drive select screen and has similar specs?

If you can write EFI32 ROM for it and replace the EEPROM, it would be doable ;) You can get 2600XT for that price (it needs new chip as well), 4870 or 8800GT.

If you dump your ROM I'll try and write something for it

How would I go about doing that? Can't google right now, will later if you don't feel like answering.

EDIT: I figured out that on Mackintoshes, if your AGPM kext is wonky (mine is, long story) the gt210 might 'scale' back which sounds close to whats happening, its sleep/idle state is too low.

Okay

Honestly, I would just scrap the 210 and get a HD 6870. They are awesome cards, and you can flash it easily.
I would if I had disposable income. Do you have a cheaper suggestion(under $100)?
Really though, something is up that should be fixable. My Late 2011 Intel Graphics MacBook Pro (Thank the lord I didn't get the Nvidia one) doesn't have these weird graphics problems. The 210 has much higher specs than the integrated.

They are very cheap used:

Other than that, get a 4870. My dad uses two in his 1,1 (I flashed both, they work in crossfire for windows.) and they get bootscreens and everything. Paid only $50 for both.

Wow! That would do it! iMovie can **** and stop stuttering. Well, thanks for the suggestions! I'll watch these and see if I can bid-snipe.

Awesome!

I love buying up cheap cards like those (I just bought some so I am not buying any ATM) and flashing them and flipping them.

The 280X is my current project, but I have it almost 100% finished.

Once you get the GPU, if you want I can do the ROM for you. I've done a ton of 6870's in the past.

Ticks me off that the miners have jacked the prices up so much

I guess I need to continue using my 7300. I might just get a GTX 650.

Once it is flashed, The 4870 DOES give you boot screens on a 1,1, just so you know.

I got a 6790. Not as nice as I wanted, but it will be better than my GTX 650 in my Gaming Rig, lol. Bitcoin mining, here I come.
