Flash management

So I'm going to pick up a 11.6 ultimate today to replace my ipad, and I know that it doesn't have flash on it. I'm sure I'll get offered pretty quickly to Download it once I get on the web. What is the best combo of flash management apps to reduce the battery drain on the MBA?

A quick MRoogle shot back click to flash, the beta 10.2, but I'm not a developer, stick with 10.1? But to be honest I don't understand the differences. Could someone please lend me some guidance? I'm so excited to get it today, I woke up early!! Thanks for your help.

I'll be getting my air on Saturday and the one piece of software I keep hearing bandied about is Click to Flash. It disables flash and will save on the battery life.

That's only for Safari. Here's a list I've compiled:


Firefox: FlashBlock (for Firefox)

Chrome: FlashBlock (for Chrome)

Safari: ClickToFlash

Opera: Flashblock for Opera

Absolutely get 10.2 for the times when you do need to use flash. Flashblock/Click2flash for the times when you want to be free of it.

Just picked up the 11.6 ultimate, and this thing is amazing! I loved it in the store, but sitting on my couch with this, it's really is amazing. Makes surfing the internet way more relaxing than with an ipad (my forearms are going to thank me for this).

So I've installed 10.2 beta, and click to flash, and i love how it works. Only question is, I just tried to play a hulu video, and checked the activity monitor while watching, and my flash was running about 57%. Is that normal for 10.2? I was reading that it would hover around 20%, but is it because its such a high quality video that it's making it work harder?

Anyway, this is probably the best purchase I've made since my iPhone 4. Thanks for all of your help!

Use Google Chrome for Flash

Here is what I do:

* Safari or Firefox for regular browsing
* Google Chrome for sites when I require Flash since it has Flash built-in

Obviously doesn´t work if you prefer to use Chrome.

If you use the FlashBlock and AdBlock extensions for Chrome you can have the best of both worlds. If you don't need Flash, FlashBlock will by default block all Flash enabled pages from loading but if you want to see a Flash enabled site, or part of it, simply click on one of the FlashBlock icons and you can open it up. I have now installed Flash 10.2 in Chrome, although I wasn't having any trouble with 10.1.

I would like to install flashblock but doesn't it bother you they collect information of all your browsing history? Thats whats holding me back.

You don't need to be a developer to use the Flash 10.2 beta. Adobe is just putting that language there to indicate that they don't guarantee that the beta will work. So far, it works fine for me.

The main difference between 10.1 and 10.2 is that some content that 10.1 processes through the CPU, 10.2 will process through the graphics processor. That improves performance, but more importantly, reduces strain on the CPU, keeping temperatures down and letting the CPU handle other tasks. Not all Flash content runs better on 10.2. Flash videos have to be programmed to take advantage of the improvements in 10.2, but many high definition videos are written to do so.

Use the Chrome when u need flash

Like one of the others posted, I browse in safari primarily. When I wish to visit a site that utilizes flash, I switch to chrome. When a chrome session is ended, there is NO continuing resident flash anything consuming resources. My experience has been great with this system and my battery life has been maximized.

Why not just activate/deactivate plugins in Safaris settings under security? That does the same thing but you don't have to cycle between apps.

What I like about click2flash is that it can force websites to send you h.264 instead of flash when available. It's not just a simple flash blocker.

Personaly I use these 2 Safari extensions:
- AdBlock for Safari
- Youtube5

The combination of these 2 really ROCK! Adblock prevents running all those unnecessary flash ads. And Youtube5 replaces the flashplayer with a HTML5 player for playing video on a lot of websites.

They're an amazing and powerful combination.

This way, I only use 1 web browser, Safari.
