Flash MX 2004 Professional Version

So I just got it, but the office ordered the one with out the books. No big deal, I never really liked Macromedia's documentation anyway.

But anyone have any recommendations on a good book to jump right into the AS 2.0 goodies? I'm a fairly experienced Flash MX programmer, so I don't need a beginners guide.

If you're already pretty familiar with ActionScript you might try to find a book that just has the syntax and some examples. I have some very good books but they're most likely below your level.
 
I suspect that O'Reilly will update its great reference but I haven't seen anything concrete about it.

I've been a huge fan of Friends Of Ed books. They're probably the best ones I've ever bought for learning the software yourself. They have a Foundation Flash MX 2004 (beginners level) which is pretty much the same thing as the Foundation Flash MX that I have. And looking at the MX 2004 book online (they have the 1st chapter in pdf for download) the regular Flash MX 2004 and Pro have a bunch of differences.

Hopefully they'll update their MX Studio and maybe eventually have a Foundation Pro. But until then I'm out of luck. I can still do work but as you can see in the screen shot - the opening window for MX Pro has quite a few options. In regular MX 2004, the middle column only has Create New Flash Document.

I've been quite happy with all of the Peachpit Press books. They come in various series starting with the Visual Quickstart Guides, all the way through Wow! books.

I've got Flash MX 2004 Pro but I'm still learning slowly. Thankfully, Adobe LiveMotion pushed ECMA JavaScript more and ActionScript 2.0 is closer to that than earlier versions.

Have you tried any of the books from Focal Press? They have quite good books. They just introduced a more entry level book on ActionScript 2.0 but also have a book on creating Flash games, which is probably as advanced as anyone is going to need for ActionScript.
 
I'll check on those Focal Press books, but a quick search on amazon.com shows that they're not available yet.

Thanks, I just found those myself and they look pretty good. I'm going to probably buy them, but I wonder if Borders or B&N has then. I'd love to look through them first.

I also talked to my purchasing dept. We're going to return the Flash MX Pro box and get another with books anyway. I'm running Flash using the 30 day free trial download from the web, so its fine.
