Hi all,
I've been looking to upgrade my Radeon 2600 for some time now, but I am dissatisfied with the available GPUs for the 2008 mac pro. I have found a number of "flashed" PC cards on eBay that claim to work, with the only published disadvantage being that you won't see anything on the displays until the login screen when booting. It seems like a lot of equivalent models to what Apple offers are available for a lot less, with better I/O options. I will be using this with 2 older cinema displays and an HDTV, so I would like something with at least 2 DP, MDP or DVI outputs, plus an HDMI output, which many of these cards have.
What exactly does "flashed" mean? I assume it voids the warranty if I install one of these cards, but are there any other disadvantages besides this and the boot screen? The price and specs are all right! Would love to throw something similar to the 5870 in but at less cost and compatible with the 2008 model.
