Flashing 7950

Hey guys, I own a mac pro 1.1 and want to put a gigabite 7950 in it.

I realise I need to be on 10.8.3 or higher in order to get the drivers, but aparently I need to flash it with the mac edition EFI in order to get boot screens.

I will be using the charmelion method in order to get 10.8.3 on it.

Will I even need to flash it if charmelion suports the 7950? (Im bootcamped with win7)

Does anyone know where I can find a guide to flash the 7950?

The guides to flashing are over on the Netkas forums. Remember to keep a copy of your original ROM before you do anything to it.

You may find that folks have posted EFI-modified ROMs for your card already over there so out of interest, what exact manufacturer and model is it?

For comparison, my 7950 is the 3Gb Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Flex OC with Boost, manufacturer ref 11196-17-40G. If it matches yours EXACTLY I can send you the EFI ROM to save you the trouble.

I always wondered WHY AMD included an EFI-32 rom on 7950 but then sent out broken 10.7.5 drivers. The sweetheart deal of nMP explains it all. Apple asked AMD to make the 7950 good for 3,1 and later, and AMD kneecapped it for 1,1 and 2,1.

So, the ultimate Paradox, you have a nice card that can be flashed to show boot screens on your 1,1. To get it to actually work once the OS loads is a whole 'nother battle.

If someone wanted to be a REAL FRIEND to the Mac community, they would have a look at the 32 bit drivers that AMD included in the 10.7.5 install. I'm guessing that they got written and then someone went back and broke them on purpose. Might be easy to fix, might not.

There are 10.7.5 32bit drivers for these cards. They just don't work. This makes it so that 5870 is last and greatest bootscreen card for 1,1. Good ol' fashioned kneecapping. And that has "Apple" written ALL OVER IT.
