Using Yosemite, I get flashing blank squares & rectangles on various sites, my guess is it is Adblock. Anybody have other ideas?

try disabling adblock? wouldn't that be the simplest way to see if that's the issue? Safari>Preferences>Extensions. just uncheck "Enable Adblock"...

Sounds to me, like Adblock is doing its job, albeit it is unable to completely block whatever it is you are viewing. Sounds like the website(s) are using java script ads. If you are running Safari, you can load JavaScript Blocker extension. That should prevent what you are seeing, if my hunch is correct.
