So i had a faulty Left Airpod Pro. It was crackling and popping. Called Apple, they kindly sent a replacement. I put them both in the original case. I had the flashing orange light on the case. I waited 30mins, for them to sync with each other but no luck.

I then pressed and held the back button for at least 45secs, to hard reset but nothing. However after a little googling, i did read that perhaps the firmware was different on each airpod pro. It advised to remove one, and reset, then sync, one at a time, in way of connecting then listening to some music on it on one at a time, then putting it aside, then do the same for the other. Then put them back in the case wait an hour, delete both bluetooth entries (as this was supposed to have created two separate bluebooth devices)

However i can't get the right to connect or work for love nor money. I called Apple Support, they had me delete them from the phone and reconnect but she couldn't get any further than me. She wasn't tech, more customer service.. Anyway they said they're now sending me a new right airpod pro ?? I said it was working fine before i got the left one. Not convinced a replacement right it's going to fix it, but hey not much else i can do at the moment.

The new left is A2084

The original right is A2083

The original case is A2190

I do have an appointment with the local Apple Store but that's not til next Tues.

If there's a trick to getting these to work, as in getting all three items (L, R and CASE) to all sync and work without having to wait for the right replacement, then please share, as i do miss em working.

Same problem. The model number does not really matter. You have mismatched firmwares. Dealing with it right now.

Take out the new firmware one and pair it again with only the older firmware one in the case. Then wait. Cant believe there is no ****ing way to force it to update.

Exactly the same situation here. Massively infuriating. Still waiting for the the 2B588 firmware replacement right AirPod Pro to update to 2D27 like my existing units. How can Apple not have clear guidelines for how to do this? Rubbish service, I say.

Mine is 2B588 and 2D15.

18 hours later nothing changed. I would be happy if I could see if my older one finally updated to 2D27 for ****s sake. At least it would be progress.

This is ridiculous.

Mine have updated now, finally. I tried all manner of methods including waiting for firmware to update with only a single AirPod in the case, which did not work, but in the end this was my path to resolution:
  1. Unpair existing AirPods (firmware 2D27) using 'forget this device'
  2. Place only the new, replacement (right) AirPod (firmware 2B588) into the charging case
  3. Pair this single AirPod with the iPhone in the usual fashion - a firmware version check will confirm 2B588
  4. Listen to music for a minute or so, just to convince the system that you have an active connection
  5. Place the 2D27 left and the 2B588 right AirPods into the charging case and connect the case to power with iPhone sitting next to them
  6. Leave undisturbed for some time - an hour should do it
  7. Open the case and check firmware version using iPhone - it will probably still say 2B588 but now try holding down the reset button on the case... and if you're lucky, the LED will flash white and returning to the firmware check will confirm 2D27.
Hope this is of some use.

I recently was dealing with a similar issue. After individually connecting the two AirPods I played some music and went to the swipe down menu on my iPhone and hit small AirPods symbol in the music section. This showed another list of both AirPods, only the old AirPod was connected and after tapping the new AirPod (in my case R) and playing with it for a second I was able to resolve it.

I'm no technician but I hope this can help others in the future.
