Hi !

I just got a brand new macbook (the lowend one) and when I boot it or wake it up, the screen flash for a fraction of a second and goes back to black and opens. Everything is normal, the os boots or i'm back where I left off! (it does it even if the luminosity is set to 0, it still flash and then stay black)

I'm asking because the first macbook i've got did not do that. I got the first one replaced because of random shutdowns during the first 2 weeks of use (must have been a logic board issue).

I searched a bit and I can't find anyone talking about this on the net, so i'm guessing maybe the current situation is normal, and the previous macbook was suppose to flash.

I don't know anyone else with a macbook, so I can't compare.

Thanks for sharing !

Hi !

I just got a brand new macbook (the lowend one) and when I boot it or wake it up, the screen flash for a "frame" and goes back to black for another frame. Then everything is normal...I searched a bit and I can't find anyone talking about this on the net, so i'm guessing maybe the current situation is normal, and the previous macbook was suppose to flash.

I don't know anyone else with a macbook, so I can't compare.

If I may suggest... visit your local Apple store or Apple Specialist and perform a sleep/wake test on the machines on display. If they all behave as yours does, then it's normal. If not get it repaired/replaced.

thanks !

Well my os is in french, but i'm guessing it's something like : "Best use of the battery"

gerardrj
it's a good idea, I was only thinking about the applestore (but this one is too far) but I could go to FutureShop(aka bestbuy) and run the test !

I've test something: I sent the macbook to sleep and the second the screen turned black, I hit spacebar. The macbook waked up without flashing.

I gets me nowhere but ...

Update: I went to a BestBuy and the macbook on display didnt do that

I'm now more curious if this is really an issue. Could it, in the long run, damage the screen ? I don't really think so but I know nothing about the macbook screen.

Could it be doing that to make sure all the pixel of the screen are fully waked up ?

Anyway, thanks for the help, and if people with a old or recent intel macbook could run the test of sending it too sleep and waking it up, it would be appreciated :)

My 2nd gen Macbook behaves in the same way as yours does, so I think it's normal.

Thanks for your post clicq

It seams like i'm a magnet for minor problems on my macs :)
My 24" imac makes a noise when I dim the screen, and 30% of the time a fan makes a bird noise inside of it :)
Then my first macbook with his random shutdowns :)

If anyone else has a macbook and can give me his input, It would really help me!

Thanks !

Nanka -- I actually noticed that today I don't have the problem, though I did just a few days ago. Do you have the "reduce screen brightness" option checked (somewhere in the energy saver preferences)? I remember that when that was enabled (or at least, when the Macbook thought it was enabled -- I keep it disabled, but it sometimes forgets), that I would have that problem. Or, it may have stopped after I did a PRAM reset, I can't remember...

same prob here.. i thought it was just norm, but obviously it isn't... i have the white may macbook (midrange).... i hope this is not worthy enough to take it to an apple store... (well, we have none in australia.. lol)...

Thanks for the info clicq,

I've tried to activate/desactivate the dim when not pluged, the dim before sleep and I also reset the PRAM but nothing changed ... humm

Do you remember anything else you may have done between the time it did it and when it stoped ?

thanks !
