With all the news about flatness coming to iOS, it got me thinking about where Apple might take Mac OS in the future.
I think a much flatter, black/grey/white Mac OS would look much more elegant than the colourful Snow Leopard (don't flame me for saying that!), and think that's the direction it's heading. Here are a few examples I noticed:

Flat system preferences icon on notification centre (Mac OS 10.8, ML):
The glossy, 3D system preferences app icon:
Flat (grey) loading bars at the top of iTunes 11, and the iTunes Match page in iTunes:
That old blue and white stripe loading bar:
It seem that in all the newer parts of Mac OS, the design is "flat" (sorry, that term is over used these days) and not colourful. Finder/iTunes icons are a good example of this!
