flatbed scanner under $200

I've got this old UMAX scanner that never got OS X drivers, and I've had to have an old computer hooked up to it JUST to scan, and then transfer over to my laptop. I'm sick of it, and am in the market for a new scanner.

I don't need anything too professional of course, just casual scanning. Can anyone recommend a good scanner under $200US? The only things that are really important to me is color accuracy and a decent driver interface.

I have an Epson one which is pretty good. I can't remember the model number but I think it cost about $300AU (~$200 US). The software and interface are decent

espon scanner are in my opinion the easiest to use and the most mac friendly basic to intermediate scanner on the market. the price is good the results are good what more could you want...
I have the epson perfection 1650 and 1250...

I used the canon lide canoscan series. Its so thin that I use it as my mouse surface when its not as a scanner. USB powered and swapping between mac and pc is as simple as plug and play... 150 bones

Yes, the CanonScan 8400F caught my eye as I was looking around, and it seems to be a knock out scanner. The only negative thing I have read that affects me is that MacWorld said that it tends to give a slightly greenish tint. However, as they still rated it as excellent in terms of color accuracy it must not be too intense.

Have you noticed any green on your scans Artful?

No green tint on my scans and even if I scan to print no odd colors appear. I will say that for me any pen (true ink pen, quill type) can be a touch light on the scans but I use them as reference only so it hasn't been a problem. Now the one photo of me is from 1975/76 as a kid and all that I needed to do was a quick fix on the whole photo. It has yellowed with age but it scanned quite well since I really haven't set up the scanner to it's fullest potential.

I too have the 8400f, it is an excellent scanner. Its extremely fast, great color, has digital ice equivalent and does an excellent job scanning negatives and slides.

btw: I don't notice any green tint.
