Is it necessary to flatten transparency in an Illustrator (v11) eps file that will be placed into Quark 6.5, then converted to a Press PDF? Need to know asap (will be here all night). Thanks for any info.

No, Quark should be able to create PDFs fine from documents with transparent EPS files. But avoid using transparency with spot colours.

Regardless of the transparency used in files that you place in Quark, it will always be flattened when you create a PDF from Quark. It doesn't matter if you export the PDF directly or print to postscript. Both methods will result in a flattened PDF.

Whew! Good to know: 200+ figures later, relieved that my suspicions were correct. Thank you (I can breathe now!).
