MacBook Pro 2016 13"

Two years ago the webcam went and the screen backlight started to act up. I got it repaired for free at Apple. At that time they had the free repair program for those affected models.

Fast forward to today and my webcam hasn't been working for a few weeks. Same issue as before, no camera detected. Screen is fine, for now.

The free repair program is no longer a thing, however has anyone had any luck at getting Apple to do the repair for free?

The 2016 MacBook Pro is considered ”Vintage” by Apple, which means they will only service them at all if you’re in one of the areas where it’s required by law. A free repair will be effectively impossible to get, and in most places you won’t even be able to pay Apple for a repair on a 2016 MBP.

This isn't what you'd want to hear but I would have sold it and bought a 2020 MBA 13" M1.

The flexgate is a design flaw.

Thanks for the replies. Oh well then.

At the moment I don't need the camera and the display is fine. The rest of the machine is working adequately for what I need so I'll hang on until OS security updates stop and then get something with the M3.

If it doesn't hold out, I'll get a used 2020 M1 Air. Those things are getting quite cheap now.

A good plan.
