So this is frustrating! When I go back to my home screen the widgets start flickering. Does anyone have this happen or know a fix!!??

Flickering Widgets

Hello all,
I was curious if anyone else has this issue where their widgets will flicker randomly going from black nothing screen to the content and keep doing that. I’ve noticed it is happening a lot more in the last couple of days and I can’t pinpoint it to anything specific. I removed all widgets (third party and Apple) except for one and the issue persists. Normally I wouldn’t be asking but when this happens my phone heats up and the battery drains like crazy.
As I post this I have been off the Home Screen for maybe a minute at max, went back and the they were flickering and I could feel the processor ramp up trying to keep up with the demand of the widgets.
I have tried restarting my phone but it doesn’t seem to help, either.

Not heard of this or experienced it myself. Have you done a hard reboot rather than just a normal restart?

I remember it happening on the beta too, but it has been a lot more pronounced now. When the full version drops and we end up out of beta I restore my phone and don’t restore from backup. I did that this time too.
I just don’t know what is happening and honestly it is driving me mad.
Mine is doing the same thing! I wonder if it has something to do with Color Widgit. As soon as I started using that specific app this started happening. I see the original poster also has this app.
I don’t have Color Widgit installed on my phone and I still have the issue occur, so I sadly don’t think that is causing it.
I hard reset my phone a little bit ago and haven’t had it happen in like an hour now. I do know it happened a lot when I had the News app in the background (how that is actually related to any of this is beyond me lol).
Bizarre that this flickering/flashing of homescreen widgets is still a thing in iOS14.4.1 I sure hope Apple solves this bug in iOS15 or earlier. Btw I currently have widgets on my homescreen from:
- Carrot Weather (in a staple)
- Clear Spaces (in a staple)
- DayHub (in a staple)
- Cheatsheet (in a staple)
- Countdown
- Countdown Go
- TradingView
- Blockfolio
And sometimes it happens when editing one of the widgets. For me it most often solves it by restarting the device or just wait it out. To my knowledge the fonts uses in these apps are not non-standard like some of the widgets that are out there that do.
I also found this article from October '20 on iPhonetricks where they indicate that user 'Jamie' on Stackoverflow indicated it is caused by non-standard fonts used in widgets or when you edit a certain widget and that then all widgets start flashing.

This issue is caused by some app. I had an iphone 13 with this issue, so i bought iphone 16 and gave iphone 13 to my daughter. The issues remains in my iphone 16 but now her iphone 13 is working well with no flickering. It turns out that some app is causing this and so far I couldn't figure out what's the app.
