Flight Sim for iMac

Is there any good flight simulator game that will run well on my 2.4GHz 24" iMac? My worry would be that the graphics card would not be up to the task - am I right?

If you want realism then Xplane is all you need. Graphics will be fine. I run it on my old G4 Mac mini and it is decent. On your machine it will fly (no pun intended.)

You should also invest in a yoke and pedals. I bought some along with xplane and the world map so I could practice between flights. Another one to try is flightgear. Not as good overall as xplane but it is free and you can look around the inside of the cabin using your mouse while flying on yoke and pedals. I do this to practice circuits so I can look around like I would in a real plane. It gives a good sense of realism to look to your left as you parallel the runway before turning for your approach.

I tried MS Flight Sim on a PC in my flying school and performed a perfect takeoff and landing which to me says it isn't realistic because I'm just not that good.

X-Plane 8 runs very well on my same spec iMac. I use it with a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick with no problems at all..

I also run MS Flight Sim 2004 via bootcamp at nearly max graphics settings and it looks and flies very well using the same joystick.

FS X is also loaded but I am not overly happy with the frame rate when using the Level D 767 addon.. It is very taxing on the graphics system and is just good enough to run at fairly moderate settings..

MS Combat Flight Sim's all work well via bootcamp..

You should have no problems with that setup.

I've got Flight Simulator X and Flight Simulator 2004 running well under Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro.
