Hi,

as I'm looking for an issue with sleeping mode/notebook closed and doing nothing, but the MBA is constantly doing something (whatever)... I found that the console is flooded with error messages:
Failed to write key XXXXXXXXXXX to SMC with error code 86.

Constantly doing this and does not stop :(

Hope they will solve it with new Big Sur update.... But 11.1 still has the error.

No, and stuff like this ticks me off because it is logging every one second so it would have been caught in testing and while I'm sure it is minimal impact, it is an obvious bug that should have been fixed.

Right? Not a single M1 mac owner who's chimed in on one of these threads has been unaffected by this issue. I'm always hesitant to jump on the hate train when it's trendy, but this is the kind of thing that should've been caught before shipping the product. Acknowledged officially, at the very least, after weeks of having it reported to them... I just want to rule out a hardware issue before my return period is up, apple!

@Zazoh FYI, I made another thread about this issue explaining a bit more about what's known and how to replicate for people stumbling upon it. Hopefully will get a bit of traction and more info from others.
don't understand why you opened another thread concerning exactly the same issue. It could have been merged (and I could change the title of the thread).

Many small threads is much more worse than have it under one big thread.

I gotcha, I didn't realize you or anyone else on this original was still active about the issue and just wanted to shed some more light on it (and link the apple thread.)

What operational problem does it cause? Is the machine running slow? Beachballs?

The Console has always shown messages which sound like problems, sometimes very frequently.

I haven’t looked at Console in my M1 MBA, I expect it has these. Are they shown as errors or warnings?

I tend to only look in Console when there is an operational problem, and I look for related info to help solve it.

But for anyone who wants to find things to worry about, I highly recommend browsing Console ;)

Maybe it's causing the issue of battery drain of many users? Who knows.

But it is very striking because there are a 'lot' of those messages within console.

Not impossible but if it was causing significant battery drain I would expect battery drain to much more widespread, since it seems likely that most M1s have the Console error. Incidentally I only see the messages on my M1 MBA if I “turn on streaming” in Console. Do you keep streaming on all the time?

Apparently an update is coming for M1 Bluetooth issues. Curious if it might quietly solve this, assuming it’s an early round of bug fixes for M1.

Yes its still occurring in 11.2 RC2 and have reported it as a reoccurring issue in all previous public beta releases

For me it's the SMC error, but also a 'lot' of new kernel warnings/errors.

Especially:
compat_ifmu_ulist: en0 copyin() error 14 (and en1, en2, en3, en4, awdl0, llw0,....)
