Ok. Bear with me on this.

My brother used a Mac. He liked to write and I found some Floppys that I'm hoping have some of his work on them.

He passed away in 1997. I have know idea what version of Mac OS he used or what was used for the floppys I found.

I want to buy a Floppy disk drive, but I don't know if I can just get any kind.

One of the floppys discs I'm looking at right now is a 3M 1.40MB
Another says MFD-2DD

I just want to make sure I don't get the wrong Floppy drive, if, in fact, it does make a difference.

I don't even know if, when I get the Floppy drive, I'll be able to access what is on the disc, but if I did, it would be great.

I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.
Thanks for any help.

Two months ago I bought a LaCie Pocket USB Floppy Disk Drive in order to transfer numerous old files that were saved to floppies from between 1995 and 1999. I am looking at the manual and it states the following under "Supported Diskette Types (3.5 inch)"

Diskette Format Support
2HD 1.44 MB PC Read/Write/Format
2HD 1.4 MB Mac Read/Write/Format *
--------------------------------------------------------------
Diskette Format Support
2DD 720 KB PC Read/Write/Format
2DD 800 KB Mac Not Supported

* Macintosh Only

Everything worked perfectly for me and your situation should be okay ... hope this helps.

Seems to rule out the MFD-2DD no? ;)

How about find someone here with a vintage Mac and have the data transferred over to modern media?
