hi this is my first paid graphic design job and i could use a little inspiration. I need to make a flyer for a real estate company that is trying to sell a specific house, i mostly know what i am doing when it comes to AI but i am still learning. this flyer would be left at the house for interested parties to contact the agent.

any ideas welcome

ok don't take this the wrong way and I probably won't be the only one to say this.

Why take on a job if you don't know what to do with it

And the best source of "inspiration" for the work is the client, I never take on a job (I do design too) where I have no idea of what the client is after, my idea of what is right could be completely wrong in relation to what they have in their heads as an idea (they all have something, even if they say they haven't). Then there's the corporate theme - do you need it to fit into a current style etc.


And AI is that Illustrator or Indesign.

The Client told me to just do "whatever" and she had no idea of what to do with it as long as it does not look cheesy no specific corporate theme is to be applied

Well ditch illustrator if you can, its not really suited to layout work in my view.

Look around at general "property retail" advertising and see whats added on them.

Design a set style (for each company) which can be used on more than one house, saves time and gives a "corporate theme" Try and get a logo from them too so it shows which company, and make sure the contact info is included.

Keep the text clean and make sure all the information you (and maybe parents/friends too) would expect is included.

Don't go over the top with fancy stuff - keep it clean and simple.

Thanks for the help got it finished already and the client is extremely pleased and as for my choice of software AI is all I have used in the past besides pages and i really don't like pages i bought iWork for Keynote, if you know a better app for next time please tell me!

InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop aren't supposed to be used seperately for different jobs. They're meant to be used collaboratively together.

Making a flyer, you should ideally use Illustrator to create any vector graphics you need - and InDesign to layout the finished print and play about with type (especially when it comes to anything double-sided).

adobe creative suite is probably the best option - get all the main program types for a "reasonable" price (although still more in the uk than us)
