So i have decided that i am going to fly to New York to buy an iPad and im wondering if you guys know if the stores will have any for sale to the public in the first week. I am from the UK and wouldn't want to waste the money if I can't get one!

wow...

Well my only thought is maybe it isn't a good idea to go to new york, they probably will be sold out really quick and extra packed even if apple stocks the stores there well. But who knows.

To each his own, but unless you wanted an excuse to visit New York, I don't see how having it a few days/weeks early is going to change your life ...

I live in northern VA and I'm interested in the iPad, and I'm not even going to try to go by the Apple store 2 miles from my house for a week or two because I don't want to deal with crowds.

If you get to New York and all the stores are sold out, I'm sure you can get one off New York craigslist for a few hundred more that day.

Be sure to wave to all the children living on the streets when you fly over them, and on the way back flash them your iPad while giving them the finger!

Why take your time with boring International Travel? Here, I will tell you what, my iPad comes on Saturday, buy me a Round Trip Plane ticket to Europe (put about 2 weeks between them) and I will personally bring you my iPad. Deal? :D

Why on Earth would you pay hundreds of dollars/pounds to come to the US, when you could order an iPad online for about $50 more? Some people have little practical sense, unless you're not telling the full story (as in you were already coming to the US).

NYC Apple stores had much worse lines than average for iPhone 3G and 3Gs. I would not count on getting one (as a previous poster suggested, you could try Craigslist but you might pay $200 extra).

There are people right now on NYC craigslist with reservations that they're willing to sell at a $100-$200 premium. That might be your best bet, to prearrange such a transfer and go to the store with them on Saturday morning with cash.
