Font fanatics? Help with font ID...

Yeah. Make sure you pick up a version (like the linked one) with the ligatures, many lack them.

Hmm. Unless they've doctored a few of the letters by hand, I don't know that that's it exactly. The lean on the A and the M is different. I've seen it enough times though, that I figured it was an actual font rather than something done for a particular execution.

Nope...it's just Avant Garde, the rest is done through alternate characters, ligatures, and perhaps some kerning adjustments. There is an interesting set of commentary here about the font.

Ah, hence the need for the ligatures. I should have known that, it's on the cover of a book that I've seen often.
