I'm about to import a bunch of font into the leopard font book, but before i do i want to know if there is any software that will just go through the fonts that i have and check to see if there are any corrupt fonts. have any designers or anyone with A LOT of fonts imported into font book yet? How has that worked out? has it slowed down the system? We're they all automatically activated? Because i don't want that. I've been trying to get answers on this for weeks surely there is someone on here that uses tons of fonts?

I don't have Leopard yet, and am not sure I ever will, but if Font Book doesn't work out for you, I thoroughly recommend Linotype FontExplorer X to manage your fonts. It's free and is a proper font utility, unlike Font Book in Tiger.
that's really great. its like itunes for fonts. i mean i know they all have the 3 window interface, but this one has a store. i never heard of it before thanks. i guess i'll use this until i get my font book questions answered. thanks.
i have couple of questions. can you print your fonts? and i only have plugins for illustrator and indesign for auto activation? can i select other applications? does it automatically put in the plugin and how do i know what's compatible?
Leopard's Font Book will validate fonts before installing them. Fonts are activated on the fly, when needed saving system resources.
i spent an hour on the phone trying to find a reasonable way to import fonts. while it will validate them, it only lets you quick sort and select the problem fonts and corrupt ones. This means you have to INDIVIDUALLY select and import the 8000 (in my case) good fonts. It is such badly designed software. There is no easy way to import all your good fonts. This wouldn't be so bad if when you just select the bad fonts you could actually take an action on them, like move them to the trash, or tell them to not import the checked items.
on top of that, it activates all the fonts when you import them. making your system slow down tremendously. When i imported only about 10 percent of the fonts i imported actually displayed in font book, and despite taking the right steps i could not disable them. Apple had no answers. I was really looking forward to this, both in tiger and in leopard and the lack of consideration in the design has disappointed me both times. I literally tried everything to get this to work, and spent hours doing so because i was really excited about this and wanted it to work. Fontexplorer is what i'm using now, it took me 15 minutes to get that running and organized.
extensis suitcase X1 or suitcase fusion will check to see if your fonts are corrupt or good. if you buy it, comes with font doctor which checks them before you add them to your suitcase. or the font manager checks as you add them. i have had some issues with it, but overall X1 has worked well.
