Font problem in Filemaker

I'm posting this question here because 1) people here may have experience with this app, 2) it's a font issue, which people here would know about.

My problem is that some interface text isn't showing up. I've tried setting different fonts in the prefs, but the default font doesn't change. This problem started when I reinstalled FontExplorer. I told it to manage my system fonts. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

How many versions of Arial have you got on your machine now? And if more than one, which version of Arial is currently activated in FontExplorer? If it's the OpenType version, see if there's a Truetype version.

hmmm, I don't seem to have a TrueType version of Arial. Should I?

You've got a Postscript version of Arial. Apparently Filemaker doesn't play nice with postscript fonts... were there any extras on the installation disc? Are there any duplicates in your font library that Font Explorer asked you to resolve? I've found the occasional conflict between Font Book and Font Explorer, so I don't let it handle my system fonts. It may be worth checking in Font Book as well to see what might be turned off.
