From different posts I see that there is a growing interest on 5.4” iPhone and also see not too much interest in the 6.1” non pro version. Is the interest of the 5,4” just because of the price tag or is it because of the form factor? To be honest, I would not mind to pay more for a 5,4 pro version. How many of you would also pay? If we extrapolate, I guess that a 899$ price point would make sense for an iPhone 12 Pro 5.4” 128G

5.4 that’s due later this year is going to need to be a bit cheaper than $899 especially as the Pro models are going to be around $999 price point.

Expect it to be around $749.

Yep, you are right, I was just guessing what would be the price of an hypothetical iPhone 5.4” Pro version.

I didn’t vote in your poll above, but consumers will be looking at the overall size, not the features. When you look at the 5.4 inch iPhone, Apple will easily boast the size of this phone with the price point. They Will save their marketing for the more expensive features for the ‘Pro’ model(s), simply because they want consumers to know that they created a Phone that will be semi-affordable, but in a smaller form factor.

Size and form factor > Everything else

This is why I value and cherish my original iPhone SE, because of its size. Although I do wish it had a bigger screen and better camera, its size makes up for the lack of those things. The 5.4" iPhone seems like it'll be a great alternative fulfilling all of my needs, even if it ends up being slightly larger than the OG SE.

The main reason I bought the 11 pro was I loved the size and was used to it from my X, although there were so many times I wanted to ditch it and get the 11 instead. Since I’m a female with small hands, I’d probably snatch this one up next year. Going to try to keep my 11 pro for two years.

No, flagship prices are getting a bit ridiculous. My 7+ was $829 and that was the nearly top-of-the-line one, 128GB. The currently comparable one would be the 11 Pro Max, 256GB. $1250. I think the price difference isn’t worth it. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I agree. Maybe if you asked me about 4-5 years ago I’d go for it, but now my priorities have changed and while I still do love tech, I’ve realized that I don’t need the “top of the line” model. Had I not gotten the 11 Pro already this year, I would’ve probably gotten the 11 or SE and still would’ve been happy.

12 5.4” will be 649.

12 6.1” will be 749.

If Apple were to have a Pro version they might have priced the 5.4 around 999 and bumped up the 6.1” to 1099 and 6.7” to 1199 or up.

I will buy the smallest 12. Regardless of whether it’s Pro or not. I might pay 250 premium for Pro for ProMotion and other things. Perhaps. Contingent on the size being no larger than 5.4”.

I am ashamed to admit it, but I would. I think the current price of the iPhone has become grossly inflated, but the issue is only exacerbated by people continuing to buy those expensive models and I will fully admit that I also buy those expensive models.

I really want a smaller phone and for the first time I am tempted to not get the most expensive model if it means I get a smaller size. However, if ProMotion is real and only comes to the Pros and future versions have an always on display for small complications then I will be extremely tempted to get the Pro version. I would honestly pay a premium over the current premium just to get the pro level features in the smaller device.

Contributing to the problem I would pay what ever for a flagship small phone.

But in saying that, I use to never keep a phone longer then a year and at the shortest a few weeks, but since my current X I have reached a point where it’s good enough for me. So I would be happy with a small phone that compares to the X and if it’s better than that’s great.

I've thought about this for a long time as the idea has been kicking around the forum and it's a big no, even if there was a Pro model smaller than 5.4" and I have a big soft spot for compact smartphones. After having the iPhone XS for 19 months, the Pro features are superfluous, even the ones rumoured for the 12 Pros and I can surely wait a couple of years until they trickle down the range. I'm a fan of the sweet spot in the range with the value for money.

I do not want a phone that expensive anymore due to how technology is advancing, the very nature of what you are buying - it will be my tenth smartphone - and the security situation of what you're carrying around and possibly losing. That much money. Even though I have never had a phone lost or stolen yet.

Times have changed. Flagships do not have significant exclusive benefits anymore. Their relevance has diminished. The product has matured. The Pros are about spending huge for diminishing returns, unless something changes and it starts teleporting you or doing the housework as well. The 12 5.4" will be plenty for me for several years. The long term.

Do we think the 5.4 will be very similar in size to the current 5.8 models...but with a smaller bezel perhaps?

Depends on what we are assuming the differences to be. What I’ve heard is a telephoto lens, lidar, and promotion. If that’s the list, then no. I’d pay something for that, but i wouldn’t go from $649 to $999. If we suppose that there are more enhancements, then maybe, depending on what we’re talking about.

So far, all indications are that it will be smaller than that. Some have worked it out to be 96% of the dimensions of the 6/7/8 shell and others have it even smaller. Some CAD files supposedly leaked which the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro had 3D printed. Check it out, it is an eye opener how compact the 5.4 is when someone picks up the 3D print in videos.

I don't know how it can have a screen about the same size as the early Samsung Note models at 5.5" only more narrow horizontally and still be so compact. Also, those videos display the smaller notches in the 2020 range and supposedly with the last year of having a physical port, the 5.4 is going to be very interesting.

As I am not a camera or photo junkie, the answer is no. Nor do I really need 5G. 4G is plenty fast enough for my needs.

Technically, no one needs 5G. 5G offers more substantiality in terms of speed and low latency for downloading media, ect. 5G will take years to become widespread and ubiquitous in terms of how it will benefit us, but every country will vary how that will roll out.
