HAHA! That ought to teach you a valuable lesson...

It's actually a little sad that things get so hyped around these boards as they do, because I can imagine the disappointment being equally big... :(

I blame Apple, since they spoiled us the past year or so with major updates constantly.

Anyways, has this convinced you to actually wait or to just buy now and stop the ridiculously waiting?

Wow, let me see... I am waiting for C2D, Apple does not release it, I give up and buy a CD instead... playing right into Apple's cards!

If anything Santa Rosa is looking better and better with each passing week.

how many tuesdays until x-mas...

I'm actually content to wait. My little 12" PB G4 is still putting along just fine. As I get further along into my design degree, I think an upgrade will be in order, but I'm thinking (theoretically) I could hold out all the way until Santa Rosa if need be.

Until then, I'll be writing a children's book, "The Little Powerbook That Could" ;)

Seeing as the performance gain from putting a C2D in a mobo that doesn't support 64-bit is around 10%, why the hell not just stop waiting if you need a laptop now? :)

I do agree about the Santa Rosa part though :)

You probably won't see C2D until Leopard comes out. When we are on OS 10.4.9, then you guys can get excited. :D

Yes, Apple waiting 6 months after PC manufacturers to upgrade their notebook processors just so they can also tout 64-bit Leopard would be something to get excited about. Yay! Apple caught up!

To all of those defending apple for not announcing the C2D when PC makers did because PCs weren't shipping with them yet anyway: Apple is now behind. And while I'm not in the market for a laptop now, I would think there are plenty of people keeping score on this. Maybe it doesn't matter in actual performance (few would notice a 10% increase anyway, right?), but as far as marketing goes, Apple isn't staying in the game. Even if they were announced TODAY, they would still be behind considering the number of both Intel and Dell ads I have seen in recent days "hyping" the new C2D.

The only way for Apple to come out ahead is to offer much more than a processor upgrade when the C2D notebooks are announced. So, whatever Apple is waiting on had better be good. Leopard, while good, just won't cut it if it ends up being THAT long of a wait.

I tried customizing some HP laptops. Every laptop I customized with the 2GHz Core 2 chip has an estimated build date of 10-17. The lower rated Core 2's have an estimated build date of 10-9. Coincidence?

Has anyone seen a Core 2 Duo Laptop in the shops or been able to order one online? Searching Froogle the shortest time for any C2D laptop appears to be 'usually 10 days' (for an Asus). Maybe we are being too hard on Apple and basing our expectations on advertising not actuality. Isn't it a bit like saying why isn't Leopard out just because MS are advertising Vista?

Agreed. The ONLY evidence I've seen that Core 2 Duo laptops are in the hands of consumers are from angry posters out here with their anecdotal evidence only.

I can buy Asus notebooks with Core 2 Duo right now here in Denmark...

No idea what I would use it for but hey, they are out there.

Wow, I hope that makes you feel real good. Laughing at people who want the most out of their money. The fact that Apple has decided to lag behind other vendors does not make me want to rush out and buy a CD MBP even more.

I mean, I could pay top dollar for a laptop with "yesterday's" processor, an underclocked mid-range GPU, terrible chassis (heat problems, no easy-access HDD) - it's just the OS that counts, right? Or I can hold onto my money until Apple brings something worthy to the table. I enjoy OS X and all, but I'm not going to be robbed of my money in buying relatively sub-par hardware.

As for those doubting C2Ds shipping, just do a google search. If you think that dozens of people on other forums are lying about their C2Ds being shipped, then it's time to stop drinking the iKool-Aid. I was being a bit hard on Apple about a week ago, for being a week late. Now they're a minimum of two weeks late, and if Tuesday updates hold true, and pending on how long shipping takes, they might be as long as three to four weeks behind.

As for Apple "spoiling" us with updates - Apple is not my benefactor. Apple is a vendor, and I am a customer. If it weren't for OS X being bound to the hardware, I definitely would have taken my money elsewhere. Technically for me, there is no competition; Apple has a monopoly over my personal computing hardware. All the same, when I shell out a ton of money for an Apple product, I expect for it to be as good as it could possibly be (within reasonable limits) and C2D is definitely in those limits. (Same price, only a chip swap.)

I have right beside me a DELL 1.83ghz Core 2 Duo that my girlfriend purchased a few weeks ago, so there you go.

I've been waiting for this C2D from Apple for 2 months now and I'm so disappointed... seeing that my gf has already it. I guess I will keep waiting... I don't REALLY need one right now and anyway, I'll use my gf's DELL in the meantime :p

But they better release it before Christmas or I might just ditch Apple for getting me as frustrated :D

It does appear, after looking online, that the lower-rated (1.6 & 1.83) Core 2 Duos are more available. I am not reading about too many 2.16 and 2.33 Meroms actually in the hands of people yet.
And marketing is probably keeping Apple from putting a 1.83GHz Core 2 to replace a 2.16 Core (1).

for those bashing core duo mbp to death(not just saying c2d is good, but saying cd mbp is HORRIBLE, so outdated, nothing good but the OS)... what do you do for living that needs absolutely the latest? i just wanted to know because it seems like you are demanding, not just a little bit, but a whole lot more out of one of the top laptop there is in the market, sure, it doesn't have c2d, is it really that bad? i dont think so..

i'm not defending the current mbp just because i have one, but im just overwhelmed by the attitude..

So wait... You just had a tantrum about how you want a worthy chassis, etc. Then you end on "it is only a chip swap"

Do you want them to just swap the chip without an update to the chassis, etc? Weak way to end that rant.

Besides if anyone has been drinking too much of the iKool-Aid it is you my friend. Apple has you wrapped up. "I stay for the OS." Yeah, ok. Way to stick it to them

This is why Apple isn't updating. They don't have to. You obviously will stick around until they make a move. They are controlling your money, not you. They will update when they get around to it. But wait, then Santa Rosa is right there... maybe they will be a few weeks late. You will wait again. And whine about how much they suck and that "it's only the OS" that is keeping you around.

Pathetic.

Well, I'm writing this post on my XPS M1210 with a core 2 duo T7200 2.0, which I received over a week ago here in the UK...

The other pc manufactures DO have the C2D, and have been shipping for a while now...

I did want to get a C2D MB, but the wait and the compromises I had to make such as the integrated video, etc, made me decide, and I'm quite happy with my purchase. This is my 3rd Dell notebook, but its the 1st that feels robust and reliable... I guess time will tell...

I will miss the chance of playing with Mac OS, but, maybe on my next upgrade Apple will be offering what I actually want without having to compromise.

I ordered my husband's C2D laptop from Dell on September 1. It was delivered Wednesday, September 20th. We've been using it for a week and couldn't be happier with it.

Not sure how much more "evidence" you need.

Indeed, I rather blow it on a Dell C2D and spend the balance wrapping tabacco so I can burn them!

I feel the same way. My feeling is that my next computer needs C2D. Sure, I may not gain any benefit from it immediately, but considering all processors are headed 64-bit, applications are destined to follow.

But if I'm going to be waiting, I might as well wait for Santa Rosa.

my CPU needs have pretty much hit a wall. In fact my old 1 Ghz G4 was plenty fast for me. Why did I upgrade? Magnetic Latch would have to be the number 1 reason. Mecanical latches IMO suck and I have never had much luck with them. Not saying other people have the same CPU needs as I do, just throwing in my 2 cents.

Apple just has to get rid of old stock before introducing a new laptop. If you NEED a core 2 Mac Apple released an iMac not too long ago. If you NEED a Core2 laptop now Apple seems to be content with you going to other venders. If you NEED a Core2 OSX laptop now, well, you're just being greedy :p

It really doesn't matter. I have a 15" MBP that I'll open tomorrow after selling my 17" on eBay. Each time I turnover a computer, the cost to me is about $300~$500, depending on how long I had it. To me, $500/year is a reasonable fee to keep up to date with the latest hardware. That works out to about $1.50/day.
