I am thinking about buying my 11 year old a mini, since the other has a MBP 17" and the little one is jealous. He has a... let me see... AKAI 20" LCD TV in his room, which he may could use as a screen for the new Mini, but it don't have a DVI or VGA port. Is there any other way I could connect the Mini to the TV? If not, I'll just buy him a blackbook.

Depends what he wants to do with it.

If he wants to use it as a monitor for up close viewing, then it will be useless. The best input he can get into it (which will be Composite video) will look dreadful when viewed closer than 2 metres...

You will get a picture but it will be unusable, unless all you want to do it sit back a few metres and watch a DVD on it...

I'd go for the BlackBook...

Blackbook it is!!!

Soundsl ike he will be. But if your 11 year old isn't happy with a brand new macbook; something that many people around here have to work and save for, then you have bigger problems then that! Don't worry, I'm not even remotely bashing anyone for buying their young child something so pricey. This is in fact the way of the world. It was how I was brought up and I'd have no right to judge. But I do think if he/she isn't happy with it then I'd be worried about the kid's level of gratefulness when good things happen. ;)

That is a good purchase, but I thought you could use an LCD tv on a mac mini. I guess I was wrong.
