Everybody like me that wishes for the iPhone to be someday available on Verizon should write to Apple and let them know. O.K., so it may be a futile effort. We all know Apple is stuck with AT&T for the next five years. However, I believe Apple should be made aware that there is a large group of people that would buy an iPhone, but is unwilling to make the switch to AT&T. Also, write to Verizon. Tell them what a huge mistake they made rejecting the iPhone, and how you will be leaving them for AT&T the second the contract is up.

Do you have any idea how badly Verizon will want to butcher the iPhone's firmware? They'll make you pay to use every feature. I don't know how you Verizon folks can tolerate such a communist carrier.
Are Verizon's PDA/Smartphones butchered like their normal handsets are? If not then why would the iPhone get butchered? Oh wait, that's right the iPhone isn't a smartphone or a PDA phone huh??
My hope is that Verizon will see the mistake they made rejecting the iPhone, so when five years goes by and they have another shot at it, they will accept Apple's requirements for branding and service. Besides, Verizon's "butchering" aren't bad. I do not mind the mind my KRZRs menu, and my dad's Q is also fine.

If there's a CDMA iPhone I suspect the Koreans will get it long before the Verizon customers.
If there's ever a CDMA iPhone, the Koreans would probably get it long after us Verizon customers do. Just like how the Asians are getting the current iPhone much later than those on AT&T.

Of course, if that iPhone minus the phone (aka 6G iPod) ever comes out I would not care if iPhone comes to Verizon. I would be happy to keep my Verizon KRZR if I also had a widescreen touch iPod with wifi.
Examples on PDAs, please? There was the original XV6700 that couldn't be tethered until it got a software update, but that's all I know of.
Verizon's supposed to be bringing out the XV6800 (HTC Mogul) and the Samsung i760 soon. Well equipped, powerful 3G devices.
Sometimes I wish Verizon was GSM-based though. That new Toshiba G900 with the 800 x 480 screen is just killer. Forget scrolling sideways on websites! That's for baby phones!
I expressed my thoughts to Verzion for the entire month leading up to the iPhone release. I made sure it was known the reasons I left them.

"Bluetooth headset capable" is all I have to say about Verizon.
Do you mean when they disabled everything except the bluetooth headset on some phones? Just like the iPhone does?

Not to derail, but I am not familiar with Verizon wanting to butcher the firmware. Do you have any links? I want to try to convince people at work who won't get an iPhone all because they want to stick with Verizon.
I'm by no means an expert, but I have (well had, as I switched to iPhone) a Verizon RAZR and they their lousy, ugly UI on it, take out Java support in favor of the useless BREW, take out Bluetooth file transfer support*, make the whole phone as slow as molasses, etc. Just one of the many reasons why Verizon will never ever get a cent from me ever again. There is no company on earth that I despise more (not even MS).
*I realize the iPhone doesn't have Bluetooth file transfers but it's easy to transfer things by syncing with iTunes, which is fine. Verizon doesn't allow cabled transfers either. You have to pay $0.25 per photo to transfer them through their service to your computer. Same kind of thing for videos and music.
Verizon doesn't butcher their PDA/smartphones. I came from verizon (motorola q) and it had the standard windows mobile software with all features intact. Verizon only puts that ugly red os on it's regular phones.

They have been known to do that on regular phones so that users can not easily get ringtones and pics and what not on their phones. They want you to use their software to purchase ringtones and pics.
But the the case of pdas and smartphones, none of their software is there. No BREW, no Vcast, no java games, no nothing.
You are freely allowed to hook up to your pc or mac and add files, ringtones, pics, movies, software as you wish from whatever source you were able to aquire it from. You have complete freedom.
I suspect that the deal fell through with verizon was NOT because they want to cripple the iPhone's software, but due to the stuff, like shared revenue on the monthly plans, activation through itunes, etc.
You know what the best way to tell Verizon they made a mistake? Switch to AT&T. The only thing that will make most companies change their collective minds is when consumers vote with their pocketbook. Why should Verizon do anything when their customers remain loyal. Look at the Chicago Cubs, their owners know they can fill the stands even if they put a AAA team out there so guess what the fans get

That would put me off their network. I don't think that I've ever bought a wallpaper nor ringtone off my network operator; the amount I pay in each month should be enough.
I agree with you though, it's probably not related to them not getting the iPhone. IIRC, AT&T were really interested in it for the added support to converting from Cingular.
Just picked up Verizon's new and wonderful blackberry 8830. One of the flagship features of this new blackberry is it's full-fledged GPS. Guess what Verizon has decided to disable in the firmware...the GPS.

I never paid for wallpapers or ringtones either back in the day when I had a razr. I simply emailed them to my vzwpix.com address, which was available to anyone on their network and it would relay the pics or ringtones straight to my phone via an MMS message for free.
I hated the crippling too, but that network was good enough that it made up for it. I had fewer dropped calls and better reception with verizon than any other carrier I was. My phone is not a work phone, so I was willing to sacrafice a little just to get the iphone. I've had more dropped calls on att these last 1 1/2 weeks than I ever did on verizon...
I'll second most of this. I'm one of those people who likes to do (or show others how to do) cool stuff on their phones.

I think you mean Cellular dictatorship. If they were communist, they would provide services to each person according to their needs and bill everyone according to their means.
