Hey, so I will be getting my first actual laptop and Macbook this Christmas. Primarily, I will be using Final Cut, iLife, and some other stuff that I doubt I'll have to worry about like iTunes and browsing the web.

Now, I understand Final Cut is an intensive task for a computer, so, in light of that and in the interest of a general/long term speed, which would be the better option?

MBA

13-inch : 256GB
1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2GB memory
256GB flash storage1
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

MBP
15-inch: 2.53GHz
Intel Core i5
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display

Also, as a last question, in the Apple Store are there any upgrades one may do, or is that a strictly online thing? If I was able to afford an SSD for the MBP it would surely be the option, but I can't so maybe a refurbished one?

Anyway, thanks a lot!

Is this serious?! It can't be.

The MBP will run rings around the Macbook Air, clearly, even with the solid state storage on the Air.

Guess I should expand. One has twice the RAM, an i5 processor in comparison to the now outdated C2D, more storage space (albeit not SSD) and a 15in display more suitable to editing. I just can't really see how which is the better option for video editing and long term speed is up for debate, lol.

Maybe I missed something. It happens!

For video editing you want a Macbook Pro. If you want a fast hard drive, just upgrade it to an SSD.

I have an Air for iWork, email, iCal, etc...

My iMac is my powerhouse. If I had to do that kind of media work on the road I would go with a Macbook Pro.
